Change the fluids as recommended on the new one and it will take you another 200k Miles

Yups, the 6speed is craps unless ur granny.
Ask any xrunner owner.

T56, th400, or baby it
Yup, had to tear my X-runner trans down several times. Shift fork, synchronizers, bearings... If the factory had put better quality parts in it from the get go, and a few different ratios, they had potential to be a good trans. I like the ratios of the new one, I (doubt, but) hope the syncs last longer and the shift forks aren't so brittle. It shifts much, much smoother than the X or the 10 OR I had, maybe they figured it out on this one. In the very near future I want to change it's oil along with T-case and diffs for my own peace of mind.

Found out today that the used transmission they replaced the old one with that had 52,000 miles on it also had trouble with reverse. Problem is they didn’t find out until they had installed it.

At least it is not going to cost me anything more than time. This a second vehicle for me so the added time is not that big a deal.

If you lost reverse and have problems with 1st, 9 times out of 10, it is the plastic cup under the shifter ball on the top of the tranny. They fail every 200k and cost $12. That is exactly how I bought my 05 for cheap and it is still going at 315k.
How easy is it to replace?

Finally got it back and it shift so much easier. There was another problem though. While they were testing it the alternator seized
At least they took care of you and it’s working again. Thanks for letting us know the outcome.

They replaced the alternator but not the pullies. Is it normal to replace them at the same time.

They showed me the alternator. It was totaled seized and part of the housing broke off. The belt was also shredded

Not necessarily if the pullies are fine they don’t need to be replaced. If you wanted to spend the money and they had high miles you could. Otherwise if it’s not broke don’t replace it.

The transmission place told me the pullies needed to be replaced. I took it to my local garage and they said they were fine. At least this saga is over.

Of course as soon as I had paid this bill my other car started grinding in the rear. Turned out I needed rear brakes and tires all around.
