Towing

I have a 2016 Tacoma with the tow package. I want to determine (a) if I can safely tow a Lance 1995 travel trailer and (b) the best additional equipment and modifications I should make (hitch, sway & weight distribution, etc). All thoughts welcomed. Thanks.

Mark, what’s the weight of the trailer and the tongue weight? You will have to put a brake box.

V-6, has a towing capacity of about 6400 lbs, so yes the Lance is within your capacity. The tongue weight is less than 400 lbs. (listed). My TT has a tongue weight of a little over 300 lbs, so I have SumoSprings added in addition to sway control. You may choose a weight distribution hitch, but the Lance probably does not require it

Thanks. What is your performance on hills/mountains?

Thanks. How does your truck perform when towing in the hills & mountains? What should I expect?

My TT is an rPod 180, it weighs a little over 3,500 and has a tongue weight of 300-350. Tow vehicle is an '18 TRD Off Road quad cab, long bed. Tows pretty good in the mountains. From our home to Northern AZ, or the White Mountains in Eastern AZ involves a lot of climbing. I have been pleased with the performance of the 3.5 so far. Average mpg has been around 14. 11 up the mountain, 17 back.

Did you add the 500lb or 1000lb SumoSprings?
