Auto Writers Gush Over New Ford Ranger

That is why I always laugh about the Prius people 'saving the environment.' How much pollution is created in the manufacture of electricity to charge your environment saving vehicle every day? And second, but not the least, how much pollution is created by the manufacture AND DISPOSAL of those lithium Ion batteries that your environment saving vehicles uses? It's a feel good thing, like saying 'it's for the children.'
I'm smellin' what your stepping ! I have often said that .you gotta burn something to make the electricity to charge that electric car .

I just read an article on google about how jeep, ram, Ford, and GM are planning on introducing plugin electrc trucks. That will be their downfall. History shows that their is a very limited market share for electric vehicles, majority of people just don't want them #won't sell. They think new car market is in a slump now, just wait, people aren't gonna buy something they don't want. GM tried this before and it went nowhere.

Volt is dead. Tesla’s going to no dealership, internet only (and struggling to build cars even in limited numbers). Other than the Tesla (base $35000 that you can’t even test drive now) there’s nothing bigger than a VW Golf.

Wait! There’s a bandwagon! We have to jump on it without thinking!

They will likely never be affordable any way. If a run if the mill truck now costs 40k to 50k, a base electric will likely run close to 70k or more. But the big question is - how do you snorkel an electric truck?

They cant make solar affordable enough for the general public and when they sell us solar it's no cheaper than nuclear or coal.
Wind. The Columbia river gorge can produce enough wind power to light the entire west coast. The grid can’t handle it. Rebuild it so it could and you might be able to power half the US and Western Canada.
Siemens has already built and is maintaining turbines out there but only operates some on half load or they overload the system. If they cranked all of them on at full power

We have wind power off of the South East coast of Joisey for something like 15 years now. Only two are operating. The rest are toast, and are too expensive to fix.

Environmentalists are screaming because wind farms are slaughtering literally 1000s of birds a day in the rotors.

Wind power kills off the birds with slow reactions, the same way as medivial wars killed those with slow reactions. Now that wars are attended by those more advanced in years, drinking and driving or drugs kill of those who lacked judgement.

Slow birds like bad eagles and raptors? How about secondary damage to smaller birds and bats getting blown out of the sky from the turbulence?

I get it. Wind turbines ARE the closest thing to free energy (certainly more than photovoltaic panels which are expensive and take up hundreds of thousands of acres) but they have not historically performed to peak and are expensive to maintain.

There is no one answer. But giving up one natural resource only to destroy others is pretty shortsighted. IMHO

But I’m not looking to start a pissing contest. [emoji895][emoji16]

Let me explain. When my parents built an addition on their house, for two years birds killed themselves by flying into the front of said addition. No bay or picture windows, just regular double hung windows. There was 10 acres of trees behind the addition, and trees had to be cleared for the addition.

Why? Because birds are accustomed to a flight path. Maybe they daydream while they fly. After two years birds ceased to crash into the front of the addition. Dumb birds? Inattentive birds? Suicidal birds? No one knows.

Just for the books, I don't believe in any of the green bullshit. Solar panels are fine when they are new, and then their output plummets steadily over the next ten years. And what of the pollution created by the manufacture of those panels? Same for storage batteries used in solar and wind systems. There is no 'free energy'. Never will be. Free energy is the sun warming your face on a clear day.

Did anyone ever wonder WHY there is a summit on polution that people from around the world fly to in order to discuss polution control to keep our environment clean? Why can't they do a teleconference if they are concerned about polution?

The US is concerned about pollution. Meanwhile China spews more pollution in one month than we do in a year. Don't we breathe the same air? What about the billions of tons of pollution that a volcano spews daily during an eruption?

Most of our ancestors came from Europe where they made a ****hole of that country. What has happened here?

I’m with ya brother! I’m just sensitive to the “new green” spewing from fools who only want to control your life.
Know who said 10 years to ecological doomsday? The UN. In 1989!

I have a friend that lives at the opposite end of the block from me. Went thru school with him from 5th grade. About 15 years ago he went 'green.' He bought a JD 'hobby' tractor. He waited 8 months for the dealer to order a tractor with California emissions on it, and paid almost $3K more for those emission controls because he don't want to pollute. Bought a Prius for the wife to go to work in. He drives a small Honda SUV for work.

He gave me hell about my GMC when I bought it in 06. What do I need a half ton 4wd pickup for? And a V8 (5.3). My gas mileage was going to be horrible (he looked up the EPA estimates, and they don't compare to his 4 cylinder Honda. Not to mention my carbon footprint.

I DID get 19-20 around town and 21-24 on the highway. The pickup was my only truck. My wife doesn't drive. I don't go on vacations for health reasons.

He has been in every state of the continental US at least once in his 3/4 ton 6.3 liter Suburban. Now he bought a Mercedes motor home with a sizeable V8 that gets, by his admission, 9 mpg. He goes on vacation twice each year since he graduated high school in 1974.

So, being the wise ass that I am, I asked isn't he concerned about the gas he is wasting by going on vacation? The reply?? "I deserve a vacation or two every year." He got pissed when I asked him about his carbon footprint. I just shake my head.

They were damn close in their prediction.
