Cat Scratch Fever

Hi Everybody , I just bought a brand new Black 2019 Toyota Tacoma a couple of weeks ago , and it wasn’t in my driveway for 24 hours before the neighbors cats were on the hood putting scratches on it , to make a long story short , I had seen a video on YouTube where the guy used Mother’s aluminum and mag polish to do paint correction , I did try this method by hand using a microfiber cloth and it seemed to take most of them out , but it was getting dark and I haven’t had a chance to get back out to rewash and finish what I started , plus I went in for hand surgery so I’m a out of commission for a little while , I was wondering your thoughts on this method and if you think I could have done damage to the clear coat , also I was wondering if you knew how generous Toyota is with the clear coat when they put it on their vehicles .

Thank you for starting this thread, I have a 18 Tacoma and my 3 cats are always sleeping and walking on it. Got a few scratches

Welcome to the forum.
That sucks
Pictures ?

No pics , weather hasn’t been cooperating , been overcast even got some snow yesterday! Really was just wondering if anyone knows if it was safe to use the Mother’s on the clear coat , or how abrasive it is compared to Meguiar’s Ultimate Polish , and how thick of a layer does Toyota put on for clear coat ?

Catch the cat and stuff it up your neighbors butt. I own cats and they stay inside. Some cat owners believe the world belongs to their cat. I've sent more than one thru the radiator when the fan caught them sleeping and keeping warm during cold nights outside. Brought the dead cat to my neighbor along with a repair bill for the radiator (new radiator actually). She refused payment, the judge thought otherwise.

Yep.. her cat her bill

At first she said that the cat wasn't hers. Obviously she forgot about the police report she signed making a complaint against me for viciously killing her cat. The judge wasn't amused that she lied under oath. Cost of radiator repair and my court costs were her responsibility.

A few trucks ago I had a brand new Ram 150 sitting in my driveway and the neighbors dogs were chasing a cat who decided to hide in the engine bay if my new truck. The dogs really, really wanted that cat and they scratched the living bejesus out of the driver side fender. I took it to a friendly body shop and he was able to buff 97% of the scratches out. Hopefully you can have as good of results as I did back then. My Taco seems to have a decent coat of clear and it's a '16. I'll keep my fingers crossed for ya. Welcome to the family.

Thanks for the welcome guys , yea at first they were her cats when I went over to talk to her about it , but then she tried denying and back peddling when I started throwing $ signs at her how much it was going to cost to get it detailed , all of the sudden they were the people’s cats up the street , I was able to get out there today and give it a good wash , I couldn’t believe I did one area that they messed up pretty bad (the top of the passengers fender the whole length of the fender) and only used Mother’s Carnuba liquid wax on it and it got rid of all of them in one application by hand with a microfiber cloth . I had gone out and bought a dual action polisher , some Meguiars Ultimate Compound , Meguiars Ultimate Polish , Mother Carnuba Paste Wax , 3” and 5” foam pads for the polisher , got a Tupperware container full of all kinds of detailing stuff now .

I own cats too , and mine are inside pets also , I think that would classify us as responsible pet owners , we live right by a busy main highway , I can’t even begin to count the amount of times their dogs got loose and my wife and I have caught them and brought it back to them , they really have no business owning any animals whatsoever , and they just let the cat interbreed and run rampant through the neighborhood

That is how we came by all of our cats....as feral kittens that we raised. Feral kittens that were a product of irrepsponsible cat owners. All of our 5 cats are spayed or neutred.

I had Weimaraners my whole life, well, since I was 12. Great dogs, but nose driven. One day my male was after a rabbit and ran thru the neighbors flower bed. I caught the dog, put him on a leash and apologized to the woman, who I have lived next door to since I was 5. She said it was OK, no damage done, but damage was done. Looked like a herd of horses trampled her flowers. So I bought her a flat of petunias at the local farm market and leveled then replaced all of her flowers. Mistakes happen, but fix your mistakes. We are still best friends.

Get yourself one of those wifi cameras and point it towards your Taco so if it happens again you'll know for sure who's little pussy cats are responsible.

I do like cats .we had 3 growing up but my wife is allergic real bad . So "no cat for you !"
But you can trust a dog , by reading their eyebrows .

Good luck with the hand ,when it gets better get a good buffer and go over the scratches with. White compound ,then meguiars #7 and a good wax after should clear them up .I live to buff paint .I went to high school for auto body now it just a hobby . use sheepskin first then change to foam pad for finishing !
