Transmission update for 2017

Welcome to the forum! There is a transmission TSB......had it done on my '17........not perfect but did help.

I have a 2017 TRD OR AC V6 Auto and have experienced very erratic, unintuitive, extremely annoying shifting and pedal response and the surging on cold start up. I know there was a TSB 0077-16 'ECM Calibrations, Shift Feeling Enhancements' that was for the erratic shifting and TSB 0125-18 'Engine Idle Surge With Steering Input' that was for the surging on start up/cold start up and TSB 0058-18 'Vehicle Surge Between 40-50 MPH. My truck was a late build in 2017 and already had the update for the Shift Enhancements and just recently the dealer flashed the ECU with the Surge TSB 0058-18. The truck still shifts horribly and still surges. I'm coming to the realization that I'm just going to have to live with both.

I had the same experience with both my 16 and 17. The dealer kept saying it was normal. I guess just grin and bear it. Haha

I complained about a year ago about constantly hunting for gears, surging, and generally not working smoothly. There are certain descriptors you need to use. I got lucky and used one or two. The service agent smiled and said, "OK." The truck works better now, IMO.

I think your words are good to trigger the service.

Good luck.

Do you live in a hilly region? My 2017 Tacoma drove me crazy going up over hills and mountains. I finally just kept the ECT button on and floored it everywhere. Not as much surging that way. MPG sucked. Haha

My 2018 V6 did the same thing. Used the ECT button, mileage sucked (15-16), revs topped @ 4600. Guess the engine is broken in now....Next trip to WV I'll use the S mode and no ECT and see what happens. Just using drive it was constantly upshifting and downshifting with the hills and mountains.

Has anyone here tried the OV Tune? Lots of love for it on other forums, but I don’t know anyone who’s running it.
I is... since... eh... August 18? I think... I have no complaints... I started out on the 1.04 87 which was a huge improvement, then tried 91 for a while then came the 1.05 with options so I went for the 87 for mpgs and ran 87 eth-free around the house. Tried to drive easy, it's still spunky. Did great across the country, 19.5 or so on 285's. Going back to AZ this week and want to try the 91 fob, whatever the heck that is... Matt just revamped everything, supposed to be much more user friendly, I have it all downloaded, does seem much easier but I haven't actually flashed the truck yet... I left my cable at home... but it runs so smooth and quiet on the 1.05B with 91 in the tank... I filled it up before I realized that it wasn't in my backpack... lol

Here's some more info if anyone is curious...

More people who are looking to increase power due to lack of power from larger tires?
I wonder why they didn't do a test on a stock tired truck with the mod, then change the tires to whatever larger size and test the truck again. My suspicious nature makes me wonder of this WAS done and the results were less than stellar.

All of you guys that are having shifting problems, check your transmission fluid level. They all come underfilled and the dealers do not check them during PDI. My 19 was underfilled by a 1/4 of a quart. Once I filled it to proper level it now shifts as smooth as butter.
