1980 2wd 20r 5 spd.

I got it to start but it idles wide open. I can manually hold the idle low. I adjusted every thing I could. The guy had a new Webber carb he gave me with it. I think I’m going to need to put it on.
The engine sounds pretty good.

I need to clean it up with some simple green so it’s not so greasy to work on. Looks like the front main seal is leaking. I need to get a gasket kit for it and start taking it apart. It has some pretty good exhaust leaks through the pipe. It’s leaking from the thermostat housing and one of the radiator tubes. Spark plugs look old and the distributor and wires probably need to be replaced. 76B4D1E1-C29C-4FE6-B52B-621F388E93F3.jpeg

I got the higher idle figured out. It was the gas peddle. It had a bunch of dirt and debris stuck up all around the base on the floor board. The hinge is pretty rusted up and causing it to not rebound and stick making it idle at full throttle. It needs a new gas peddle. I tuned the carb it seems to be ok. Drove it a little and clutch/transmission seems to be ok.
I think I’ll still put this Webber on since I have it. Time to get a gasket kit, new hoses, drain all the fluids, clean out the fuel system and brake system, flush all the lines, tune up parts and see how she rolls for 40yrs old.
Looks like there is some funky wiring with the head lights and turn signals. I’m not a fan of the electrical.

That's an awesome project dood!!!
Luvit!

Took the custom carpeted bed box out. The bed is in really good shape. Hardly any rust or wear, it’s dirty but can be cleaned. The tail gate has a couple cancer spots but not all the way through (fixable) There was a bed mat under the boxes, I’ll clean it up and use it. C5AF63CF-215A-4AFB-A77C-8A8FF8C39F2E.jpeg

Cleaned up the engine bay so I could work on it a little easier without getting to greasy. Valve cover cleaned up good. Got the front main seal replaced. The one that was in there was hard and brittle, no wonder it was leaking.
Painted the fan shroud it was looking bad. Flushed the radiator and drained the oil. Swapped out the plugs for some NKG platinums, distributor, rotor and wires. Replaced the belts. I was trying to clean parts as I was going. I should be able to put it all back together tomorrow and start working on getting the Weber carb on.
Found more electrical issues so that’s going to be more fun.F9BB8A20-E801-492B-A690-BD80753177B9.jpeg 2DA4F3A0-874D-4F31-97C4-0C51EA254A72.jpeg B5296C4A-EFB7-4E6C-9BA5-806D3FC2ACC9.jpegD25FC488-383C-42F1-B5BD-08ED7293667A.jpeg

Got the thermostat, new hoses, fresh fluids in and put back together. Still need to get the gas pedal figured out it sticks bad. I’m having a hard time finding a replacement. I’ll try to see if I can fix this one but it’s pretty rusted away. The exhaust needs to be addressed it’s in bad shape. Probably pull the front wheels off and see how the breaks look today. The exhaust manifold gasket needs replaced but I need new manifold bolts it is missing at least one that I can see. I’m sure she’s happy to have fresh fluids running through her.

Bartle thought we were going when I started it up.

There was a good leak around the exhaust manifold gasket so I pulled it off to fix it. It’s got a small crack in it. :(
I can’t find a new aftermarket OEM one. Debating on putting an aftermarket header on it and taking some of the smog stuff off. 89A68A9A-1437-445D-BC92-A6ADA40CC0C6.jpeg

Did you look for a 20r exhaust manifold there?
I couldn’t find an OEM replica.

The crack isn’t that bad. If I have to I’ll just use it.

Trying to find stuff for the 20r has proven to be much more difficult then 22r/re parts.
I vote header but could try this... lol

That's a sweet idea for a build :) ! Go with the header and the Webber should wake it up a little .had a header and Webber 2 barrel on a ' 71 Opel Rallye , looked like a ford maverick that got put in the dryer it was fun to drive . I used this stuff to clean engines called "Drive Up" got it at the AutoZone its for decreasing oil spots in the driveway but it makes a killer engine cleaner .Wet the motor spray the stuff go have a beer and let it soak then hose it off !
