Tires update on Cooper AT3's

One of the guys here (TacoJoe) recommended a tire, Cooper AT3's so I checked them out and really liked the tread design. They were supposed to be good in rain/snow/off road.
Well I bought a set (discount tire) and had them installed and balanced. I've been driving with them every day for 4 or 5 weeks. I live in Frederick Maryland and have gotten all that snow/ice/rain you've been hearing about on the East coast! No power for 4 days, you get the picture !

My basis for comparison, I've run BFG's and Goodyear tires forever, this Cooper tire is better in a lot of respects as any of them I have ever run. This is my second Tacoma.

One category at a time:

Ice: What can one say, ice is ice! I had to drive in the "Ditch" to get traction coming down (and up) steep hills and tight turns, but felt more comfortable having the AT3's. Not a single problem, except my blood pressure went up I'm sure, and there was no foul odour from my pants .

Snow: Absolutely great! Went through some drifts up to 3 feet, had to back up once and have another go at it (pushing snow) but no problems. No sliding, fish tailing, no loss of control.

Rain: My main problem for buying all new tires in the first place was wet roads. These tires are great on wet roads, no unexpected sideways moves or brake sliding.

Highway: I normally keep within the speed limit, meaning 65 somewhat on the Interstate highways. I would rate the tire noise as Good, there is some noise but not objectionable.

Would I buy this tire again:

My son loves his AT3 tires on his 2007 Access cab. It's be a long winter for him and he's loving the tires.

Cheers, Barney

I have used Cooper Tires on all my Vehicles for years, little bit more money but in the end run they last longer. I am running Coopers on my Tacoma with the Highway Tread (HT). Live in Atlantic Canada and we get it all in weather scenarios. Just now driven to Florida, excellent ride ,low noise, and in my onion they have a very rugged tread.

I had those exact tires on my 2006 GMC Sierra 1500 4wd. I was just as pleased as you are. I had 66K on the tires when I sold the truck and the tread was still above the wear bars. Even in this worn state, the tires still performed as new. I WILL use them on my 2018 Tacoma when it needs tires.

The only off point, if you want to consider it one, is slight noise on the road. Not objectionable, just a bit more than stock 'all season' tires. In my opinion, it is more than offset by traction and tire life.
