i recently installed a front 3in lift block on the front and 1.5 add a leaf on the rear. ever since i put the lift on i would get a slow vibration/hum around 10mph-45mph, it will get faster as i go but when i hit highway speeds its not noticeable. its not a constant hum or vibration it'll be like humm----humm----humm with about 2-4second interval. i tried dropping the front diff with spacers i fabercated (did this with my 08 tacoma with no problem) and the carrier bearing but still didn't make a difference. BUT i did notice it stops humming when i switch it 4wd.... im lost and never had this issue!! HELP

2016 TRD Sport. I have the same problem after adding a Procomp Nitro 3/1 leveling lift kit. Mine still makes the sound in 4wd. The sound is most noticeable when I accelerate and brake at stop lights. Sounds like something is rubbing as it rotates but goes away after 40mph+. I'm taking it back to the shop this morning. I'll let you know what solution they find.

I needed a 1/2" differential drop located below the cab. It helped a lot but there's still a little bit of noise left. I had Toyota check it out and they said this is the way it was going to be for now on BUT will function normally and not to worry about it. Also, my warranty is still good.

I had the same humming (vibration) noise with my truck and it would also go away in 4wd. This seems to be a common problem.
It is the needle bearing, a tsb(technical service bulletin) which is covered by warranty. I just got it fixed by dealership and noise is gone. Check it out, this might be your problem. T-SB-0026-15.

The tsb is for 2016?

Are you fix your problem

Thats bull. They should fix it. No reason why a brand new truck should grind or humm or vibrate for any reason unless something is wrong. CAll toyota tell them whats going on. Take it to another dealership if you have to. An in worse case fix it yourself and let toyota know that you fixed it after failed attempts from the dealer. Good luck man. Hope it gets resolved.

A non modified truck wont make the noise therefore toyota is not responsible

I have a 2015 Toyota Tacoma TRD. I put a 3in lift on it from Les Schwab just this past Saturday. As I was pulling out of the shop and went down the road I had noticed a small vibration about 35mph. I couldn't take it back because they were closed. I called my fiance to let him know and he reminded me that some of the parts are new and might be settling. The vibration did go away during our conversation. The next day everything seemed fine slight vibration here and there but rare. Monday it started back in on the way home then went away. Tuesday morning I made the decision to take it in after work. On my way to the shop the hum sound started and was loud enough my mom could hear it over the phone. I went straight to the shop and told them what was going on. 45 minutes later I was told my differential was going out and needs to go into the dealership. I couldn't understand it. My truck didn't do that before the lift so I called the dealership I bought my truck from. BTW it only has 16k on the truck and I'm the only owner and driver. My dealership asked if it was a 3in lift and if I bought it from Les Schwab? I said yes and they said it was something with their leveling lifts that messes up the Tacoma trucks. Theyou said take it back get it off then test drive it and said he about 90% sure the sound/vibration would go away. So I did and after go every possible scenario the called the local dealership in our town. My truck was bought out of town. They said they have only seen this once and when taken off the noise went away. They had theme check the fluids to make sure it was full. I told them it should be because Fri that dealership serviced my truck. So the fluid gets checked and it's full but the shop guy says there is discoloration in the oil and more than likely damage is there. Lift is going to come off Thursday and tested then they will have to make sure there is no damage to my differential. Part of me doesn't want it to be my lift because I love it on my truck but then again I'm worried about my truck and possible damage already going on. This is such a bummer!

The noise in from the increased of the drive shaft at the Center / Carrier bearing most likely. Your should rear diff should be fine.

So what do they need to do to correct it? They have never seen this happen before. They also said i may have already damaged the differential because when they check the fluid it wasnt the right color. Sorry long night of no sleep.

Its probably the drive shaft angle causing the noise try a diff drop, some have success with this. If the diff fluid is an off color its contaminated, angle on the drive shaft should not effect fluid color

Guys diff drop is for the front. The front drive shaft doesn't spin when your driving around on pavement unless your in four wheel drive! They don't work ! The spacers just pivot the cast steel supports for the front diff down and lower your ground clearance. Your rear carrier bearing can be spaced up towards the frame or down. This is a pain in the ass because by doing this you change at what speed you get the thumping and noise. It's better at take off where mine is right now . First gear lower drive shaft speed less potential damage to anything in the drive line. So if the shop will spend the time which equals your money. One potential fix is shimming it down or up until less vibration/ thumping is found. This doesn't usually eliminate it completely. My 07 I bought at factory height 16 months ago had it with no lift. A buddy of mine who has been in Toyota service for 30 years drove it and said feel the thump ? I said yes , he said Toyota has been trying to fix it for years since the double cab 2005 came out. To sum up ,two piece drive shafts with more lift in the suspension will increase drive shaft angles in be more of a pain in your ass! Custom one piece drive shafts are I'm told the way to go.

Is it a thump for 3-5 revolutions then gone?

It's a vibration here and there in gas peddle and a hum sound coming from below me. Which isn't constant but when it starts it is at 30mph and has continued at 60mph. I did have some confirmation from another person that it sounds like bearings going out. They looked at my lift and being it's the pucks and everything is actually toyota parts they didn't believe it was the lift. They also checked the drive lines and said angles were dead on as well as the alignment. When they took it for a drive they could hear the hum sound around 20mph.

The shop is taking the pucks out today and putting what little stock parts they took off back on. They want me to have it checked by the dealership being it's under warranty. My second opinion agreed. I'm also going to have it towed in so I don't make it worse.

Well as soon as the lift was off it went away. It's still getting towed and getting checked by the dealership. Only because the shop saw the oil was not the right color. I will keep you posted.

If you like the look of the lift you'll learn to deal with the noise i have
