k&n drop in filter

Seriously have seen them dripping out of the box.
Exactly, before i knew better i bought 1 for a celica and it was dripping when i took it out of the factory packaging.
Then when i bought their intake recently to test for the tacoma, it had a puddle of oil in the bag.

Course after testing was done i took that pos off, cleaned tb and maf, and sold the intake.

Never understood that. There are things I like to oil before installing. An air filter is not one.

Ever cut open an oem yota air filter?
Its got long fibers like cotton iirc. I did it like 5yrs ago. I also soaked a piece in water for 24hrs and it did not turn into a pulp mash.
Therefore i dont think its paper.... try it if u have an old 1 laying around and lemme know what u think.
I mean feel em even. Paper isnt that soft is it?

:D My never understood that... wasn't that I didn't understand the purpose of the oil on a K&N oil air filter. I get the physics and chemistry, larger gaps in media, oil helps catches particles, particles bind and charge together, I get these types of oiled filters use to be helpful in extremely dusty environments. The technology of dry filers have improved to do the same thing without the oil.
My never understood that... was why you would spend more money on a filter that can cause damage to the MAF sensor costing $$$ and have to clean it which takes time and more $$$, buy the cleaner, clean it, dry it, buy the oil, oil it. Blah.
I have never understood that and have no need for that. Even before these 3, 5 and 7 layer dry filters I always just used OEM and dry synthetic filters.
Needs that oil because the less dense filter media doesn't filter as good as paper.

I use to be a hard core k&n fan. But once I went back to a stock filter not only did I have peace of mind but seems to run better felt like I was loosing power with the k&n.IMG_1309.jpg

I ran a K&N on a 22RE and had lots of fine grit inside the intake tube, and also ran a TRD air performance filter(AFE brand) on a 3.4l v6 which seemed to filter better than the K&N but both were a hassle to clean, dry and oil, performance was negligable if any at all.

Cool video, doesnt tell us wtf it is..but ive never seen paper act that way cept toilet paper. Once **** tickets get wet tho, they turn into mash....which our filters do not.
If anything it looks and flops around like a sheet of polyfil in that video.

https://www.alibaba.com/product-det...278.html?spm=a2700.7724838.2017115.277.xPYSjI these 2.7l Chinese filters use cotton gauze material, not sure if OEM Toyota filters are the same, at the price of $1-$2 per filter I can see where these EBAY sellers can make a dam good profit on selling them for $8 a pop, I know OEM Toyota filters are a 3 layer material(?). I have one of those cheap EBAY filters in my truck now its about due to be replaced and Im going to cut it open to see how many layers it has Im assuming not 3 because it was quite a bit lighter in weight than the OEM it replaced, although it seems to be filtering effectively no grit in the intake tube.

I was always a hard core K&N advocate too. Used them from the double barrel carbureted days. I have had them in recent years with no difference in power or performance so I gave them up.

im not an advocate but I bought into the never have to buy another filter for the life of your car strategy with these type of filters. I was a one point considering getting a AFE Pro Dry washable filter but have been seeing that these will often let fine particles thru since the media material doesn't restrict airflow as much as the paper types, Im quite happy replacing the cabin and engine filters every 30k miles than washing, drying, oiling routine.

Agreed. It is a whole lot easier.

Those intervals seem extended
