What is the octane requirement for the 2017 Tacoma V6, what is the purpose of the ECT PWR button and when should it be used? I am trying to hold off unwrapping my owners manual from its sealed package as long as possible. LOL
I did some searches and see the recommended octane is 87 but I am only getting 15 mpg all around. I thought going up in octane might help and was curious if using the ECT mode constantly would have a negative effect even though shifting is allegedly better. To date I have not used it at all.

Like Nancy said, 87 octane is recommended. Your overall mileage will change based off of: your driving distances, patterns, and conditions.
ECT shouldn’t hurt to use all the time, it’ll just drop your gas mileage. It’s made to hold gears to a higher RPM so that you get more power/speed.

And so you don’t have to unwrap your manual, here’s a link to the 2017 Tacoma Owner Manual online:

Do you have it lifted with 285’s? 15mpg all around is low if it’s a stock 2017 Tacoma. I’ve never seen you post any pictures so I’m asking. Post some pictures :)

So I see everyone saying that 15 MPG is horrible. I have a 2018 stock DCSB with TRD OR package and I only get 15MPG.

If I drive like a granny I get 16MPG for the trip.

Oh and I have a MT too. I shift at around 2-3k rpm and still gas mileage is around 15.

I use 87 octane from shell or Sonoco.

So what could I be doing wrong. Should I take it in? Is it a lemon?

Get the Toyota Owners App. It has a manual in it. Read the electronic manual please.

Hell, you enter your VIN, set a pic of your vehicle, name it, all of your services from Toyota enter into it automatically, you can add extra notes.... get the app.
