Hey everyone,

So, I bought my taco last week and I’ve noticed a strange noise coming from behind my brake pedal on every other press of the brake or when I press down hard. It sounds like a buzzing or some type of mechanical sound. It happens all the time... I upgraded from a 2005 TRD and I’m trying to see if this is normal or not...

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum.
It sounds like the ABS kicking in. But it’s hard to say definitively without hearing it.

Thanks! Yeah, that’s what I’ve read, but should it kick in consistently? It happens every third press of the brakes. It’s a buzz, and I can slightly feel it under my foot. While moving and while stopped.

If it’s doing it that often I’d take it to the dealership and let them evaluate since it’s under warranty.
If it’s doing it that often and under all conditions it’ll be no problem to replicate for them so it can be diagnosed.

Alright...the dealer calibrated my ABS and VSC system. He said that “under certain situations the booster motor will run and can be felt through the brake pedal”. Now, I don’t disagree with that, but for it to happen every 3rd time I press the brake doesn’t seem right...

Nonetheless, he said is was “normal”...

Did the calibration help any?

Maybe try this on a country road or when there are no cars around. Safety first. Try running the truck up to about 60mph and hitting the brakes hard Slowing down to about 10-15 mph take off and do it again. See if that helps take the shaking out.

I am having the same issue, 55k on my 2018 trd off road. No work has been conducted although I did have my brake fluid swapped and bled by the dealer about 8 months ago, so that can be it. It just started making the buzzing out of the blue and I'm pretty intune with my truck. I don't believe it's a vacuum issue as I do not have fluctuating rpm at idle, it has a small amount of push back on the booster check- depressing pedal until hard and start up (mine actually didn't completely get hard). While running and parked, if I keep pumping without fully releasing you can hear the pump buzzing the entire time vs just triggering for a few seconds and stopping until I have to stop again while driving. I read on a few forums folks suggest replacing the booster, but wouldn't whatever the electric motor is that's priming to to say? The audio shows the noise but try to ignore the extra noise from holding my phone lol
