My Tacoma came with a lifetime warranty supposedly. Anyone else get one also? You think this is legit or just sales pitch?

Never heard of the lifetime warranty
I’ve seen dealerships offer lifetime warranties to the original owner on powertrains with a lot of stipulations like all the service done there etc.

Yes, I bought a 2018 Tacoma and was offered a lifetime warranty. The only stipulation is that you must do all the maintenance as mapped out in the manual. They recommend having all the maintenance done at the dealership, but do not mandate it. I asked up and down to try and find the holes in the warranty, and there are some, but I did not see any that applied to me. I am still somewhat skeptical, but here is the info from my dealership:

Obviously the warranty is limited to specific areas, as mapped out there too.

The dealer that I purchased from offers a lifetime warranty as long as I have the oil changes and tire rotations there.....

and Transmission Fluid changes....
It works out to their advantage because they get the money from you having your service and most people don’t keep a vehicle long enough to have any major problems that would have to be honored under the warranty. But if you keep the vehicle that’s an awesome deal.

I’ve got tires for life on my Subaru and I’ve used it twice so far. I still had to pay for the mount and balance and alignment but the tires where free.
That depends on the dealer. I had that warranty for tires on a f150 i purchased at Sewell Ford in Odessa, Tx. Wife got a bubble on the sidewall. Took it in, no questions asked, got a loaner vehicle and in 30 min got called the truck was ready. $0

I was told "lifetime powertrain" but no specifics around having service done at the dealer. Let's think this thru:
-Where service is done is probably not going to be a valid defense for the dealer to escape a warranty claim. For a dealer or Toyota to deny a warranty claim, there would need to be proof that either negligence thru lack of maintenance or improper maintenance/service/modification caused the failure. Enough people have gone thru this with the original warranty. Same argument applies. At this point, the warranty is a selling point for dealer service.
-The manufacturer is under no obligation to source replacement powertrain parts outside of a certain period. Last I heard this was the original warranty period after the last vehicle is sold, so estimate 5 years after the last 3rd gen. You can bet Toyota's lawyers have written some fine print to cover this. Emissions control warranty is 8 years, so if the PCM, or anything ignition, mixture, fuel delivery, or exhaust fails, you may get lucky.
-A warranty is going to cover defects, not failures due to fair wear & tear. As any vehicle ages, it becomes harder and harder to prove that any failure was due to a defect, and not age of the vehicle. These details don't come up on dealer web sites, but during the transaction when you're at the dealer for several hours signing reams of carbon paper laden agreements.
