I just swapped out the battery when the smell first started two weeks ago The smell goes away after driving awhile

It's a TDR Off-road V6

I have a burnt electric smell front drivers side with stop and starts. I've seen no smoke, though alternator feels hot to touch. I'm new to my 08 taco Any suggestions? Cheers The procrastinating paramedic
