New to this site, hello, and tacomaworld rant

Hello,

I am new here, just got a 7-day ban at tacomaworld. Can anyone explain what the hell is wrong with that place? Pretty much any post regarding problems with my truck (and how to fix them, I am not just whining) get immediate, sarcastic replies like "bullsh-t", "you're lying", "maybe you'd be happier in a Ford", etc. I've never seen a more wound-up bunch of fanboys in my whole life. And the mods are super one-sided. Fanboys are allowed to make endless personal attacks, but any in-kind response brings down the mods, hard.

There's a lot of excellent information there, but the toxic fanboy atmosphere makes it impossible to post a question.

Anyway, I am in the Renton WA area, got a 6MT 2017 TRD Off Road. Have added the URD short throw shift kit, TRD Pro shift knob, Bushwacker fender flares, Rigid LED fog lights, rek gen flaps, Tyger steps, AFE Momentum GT dry filter air intake with above-radiator scoop, and a variety of vanity mods.

I had a TON of problems with my truck, mostly related to the engine. My engine would hesitate, lug, etc. Dealers were mostly useless and tacomaworld was just a chance for azzholes to take potshots at me. Believe it or not, I finally fixed it recently by taking the advice of a car-enthusiast mechanic: install an oil catch can and do an intake cleaning (he dumped a whole can of throttle body cleaner in a vacuum line by the throttle body and ran cleaner in the tank). This was AFTER I installed OVtune, which didn't solve everything. Now it runs fantastic and I am just waiting on my URD stage 2 clutch kit, because apparently the stock clutch is total crud (I could smell burning clutch a month ago just pulling out of a steep driveway).

Anway, I posted my "good news" on tacomaworld a couple days ago and the negative replies were instant and harsh. Go figure. I knew other people had the same problems and hoped this would help. So I started replying back along the lines of "all you worthless fanboys can just kill yourselves" and down came the ban hammer.

Sorry about the rambling post, just wanted to vent a little.

Are you having any issues with your trans locking you out of gear?

The dealer has been investigating my 18 TRDOR with no luck this far but it’s happened close to 10x out of the 5k miles I’ve had it

Thanks for the welcome. Oh yeah, also installed a MBRP catback muffler and LED low-beams. The muffler causes problems on TW too, believe it or not. People post questions about upgrading their muffler and get dumped on..."the stock muffler is best....who wants a louder car.....V6's sound like a fart can with a more open muffler"...etc. Then I post video clips of my exhaust sound and they all shut up.

Warmfuzzies,

My truck is stickshift, so I can't comment on your problem except to note that most Toyota dealers are downright hostile to taking care of warranty work, and will lie and say "operating as designed" on the work order. From my experience, this comes higher up from Toyota Corporate because they don't want to pay for anything.

Mines a stick too.

I can’t access first sometimes — curious if yours locks you out to the point where it only works if you throw into 2nd then back to 1st.

Dealer sees manuals so rarely they have no basis for comparison.

Ohhh, I see. I actually get extra notchiness because of the URD short throw, which I did not have on the stock throw. Have you tried just going out of gear and popping clutch pedal in and out to reset the mechanism? Usually works for me. You shouldn't need to swing over to middle either. Just popping it out of 1st, holding it between 1 and 2nd, and doing the clutch pedal should fix it. I am assuming you have the stock throw? I notice the synchro's in this transmission are a little weak, fyi.

I like my truck now, and I still think it's the turd gen. Toyota really dropped the ball on this one. But I guess TW is a circlejerk where criticism of holy toyota isn't allowed.
I always refer to mine as turd gen. Haha
I have 3 pedals and the OV tune as well, it's not nearly as turdy as it once was. Pretty dang fun honestly. Fortunately, I haven't had any issues with my truck other than the heater going out but I took off the control panel and blew the dust out and it has worked fine ever since. Haha

If you still have problems with engine response, look into a catch can and the intake cleaning. I honestly think that did more than OVtune.

I don't think there will be any problems with you guys as you are much nicer and cooler than the TW guyz. Look forward to a long time on here.

Welcome to the forum!! I'm on both forums. Honestly, I have had more help and advise concerning mods and repairs for my 09 Tacoma SR5 and my 17 Tacoma SR5 (my current truck). So... I check in (flaming Terminator skull) "once and awhile" at Tacoma World... just prefer this forum.
