I like the still factory clutch statement.
That is another concern of mine about how long a factory clutch will last.

my rig is nearing 300,000 miles at 26yrs on the factory clutch but will need a new one in the next 100,000 miles i would assume... just wish that rear main seal was weeping so I would have every reason to get it all torn down and spend some good coin onit
the hydraulic master/slave cylinders did need replaced at 207,000 because the pedal would not return back in reverse, had to toe it up most of the time

no towing here, mostly long and winding highway miles (so not much shifting just stay in 5th gear) coupled with the stop-and-go traffic in Chicago St Louis and KCMO
it was definitely put to the test a few months ago on a wheeling adventure in the higher mountainous regions of Colorado Montana and Wyoming
...maybe fortunate that it did not burn or freeze out during that after dark climb up to the tunnel on east i70 outside of Denver, bitter cold and snowy slick icy roads with traffic backed up crawling like a snail on the incline for many miles in the dark, its all an art to clutch it in that situation and keep traction at the same time in 4wd
i may have stalled it at least once :eek:


time will tell if the new breed of Tacoma MT is better or same as the oldest of Tacomas
 
Your suppose to drain the fluid ? Ut oh, i just turned 70,000 miles and the only fluid I've changed is the oil….

there's an OG Gen1 guy in Virginia that went to the darkside with a Gen3...
his '96 Tacoma single cab 4wd with 400+ thousand miles claims to have NEVER changed the MT or any of the diff fluids in 27 years and they operate as usual he claims

i do not know if he is still on the original clutch or not but wow i have the need to know now!
can somebody here go and ask him??

That's excellent, that's one of my worries about when I'm going to have to replace the clutch. I'm just rolling over 102,000 miles and your post makes me feel much better.

it just so happened that the clutch parts far outlasted the pilot bearing that was finally found to be making the odd noises a few months ago seizing on the input shaft
clutch was working just fine

How many miles before the pilot bearing started making noise?
 
If it was the pilot bearing making the noise, nobody could hear it when I heard it and didn't have a clue where the noise was coming from
I first heard an obscure noise right before 300k that gradually became more prevalent but still nobody could hear it like I heard it

Noises and ongoing chitchat about it are stories in the halls of TF somewhere over the past year since it occured

I betcha this replacement OEM clutch (all parts) And pilot bearing do not make it 100k miles :confused: before one or the other is shot to krap and another six hour to nine hour task is needed
 
because i have read here or there a time or two that the replacement is never good as the factory install :(
i sense that issues and problems are already developing...
 
More bs? If a clutch replacement is correctly done, it's just as good as the original build. I did clutch replacements on two different year 4wd toyota pickups I owned. Both ran just as good as before. Geez when I hear crap like that, it piss's me off.

I believe if you use new genuine factory parts; replace the clutch, bearing and pressure plate you would get the same results.
Some ppl have the PP turned and some just ruff it up with a sanding wheel.
