Electric cars are a huge problem too

Any time someone brags about plugging in their electric car, i show them this video. They are using new methods and literally ripping the tops off of mountains in Virginia to get at the coal.

I conserved by not having 4 kids. I'll drive oil.

Yup. People think power comes from the wall and that's it. Nope! Strip mining for the batteries and coal burning for the power. Great job saving the planet.

Exactly! Electric cars are only good for causing more destruction. I mean yeah they are a good idea but they have a long way to go before they are widely adopted

Nuke seems like a reasonable alternative?

On the other hand, I wouldn't like standing in my back yard and watching an ugly giant sci-fi tower belching out radioactive steam. But that's just me.

Maybe but you still have to mine for the plutonium and when an accident at the plant happens you can't just clean it up with some kitty litter and a broom.

I think that one of the power sources that's being used more and more is coming from wind generators. Still a small percentage, I'm sure, but we're beginning to see a lot of them down on the gulf coast and out in west Texas,

So in essence electric cars are not as good for the environment as owners claim! That video definitely opened my eyes

I am a former KY coal miner (first job, six years). I worked in a deep mine which is not good for the environment, but is nothing in scale compared to strip mining. Appalachia is one of the oldest, most diverse mountain ranges in the world and it's beautiful. It kills me to see it stripped away.

Here in nc we have a lot of coal burning power plants however the same company has had 2 coal pond leaks that leaked into 2 different major waterways causing a massive amount of extremely toxic waste to flood into the rivers. Multimillion if not billion dollar clean up and repair, not including the effects on wildlife. They all come with a price and we are in desperate need of finding new more effective ways to produce power.

There's a lot of crap that come about from the creation of the batteries used in modern electric cars too.

That's good to hear.

The worst energy sources, in my personal opinion, are the ones that cause damage that can never never never be undone -- like in that video.

I can't even describe my feelings when watching the kind of stuff in that video. It makes me sick, and, I'm a conservative!!

I got into a argument about 25 years ago with someone who said that a human life is worth the amount of work he can do in a lifetime. I was suddenly hit with an idea. I said, no, a human life is worth what a 95 year old multi-billionaire would pay to be 16 years old again.

He then kept arguing, and said that I was playing with words. He just couldn't understand what I was saying. It amazed me. I still remember the conversation to this day.

Whether it's a human life, an ancient redwood tree, or an Appalachian mountain, there are some things that just cannot be quantified in terms of money.

Unfortunately, there's too many people who can't understand that. It's killing things that future generations will never get to see and experience, ever.

That's a good point about the value of life. I'm conservative too, but that doesn't mean i have to agree with conservatives on every issue.
