Crawl Control

yeah the noise you are hearing the "clicking" is the ABS pumping brake fluid to the wheels.
Hi Mad Taco...thanks for your reply...I appreciate it. Can you provide me with some details about where you found this information or your source of your feeling that the sound I describe is normal and is the ABC system? I cannot find a statement that this sound is normal in any Toyota documents other than "you may hear noises from the engine compartment or under the truck" in the manual. Thank you again.

Trade the truck in.
Hi whippersnapper02...I did not mean to offend you. Please note that I truly appreciate your knowledge and comments. But since I did not get a definitive answer from Toyota I felt compelled to pursue this a little more. I am new to this so bear with me and I appreciate your patience.

No offense taken. We've pointed out that this is normal though.

Quick dumb question...Can you use, or should you use, the locking rear diff with Crawl Control? I'm thinking no, but I'm not sure.

Hello G54...FYI...Please review Pages 253 to 255 of the Tacoma 2017 Owner's Manuel. It should answer your question.

Thank you. I downloaded the PDF and I read it. It does say the diff lock cannot be used with MTS. Although I could not find where it specifically says not to use the locker with CC, I am assuming the three systems are not to be used in conjunction with eachother. After thinking about it, locking the rear axle seems counter productive to the way CC works by using brake and acceleration on each tire independent of the others.

I agree. I just spoke with my assistant service manager and he recommends not using the MTS, CC, and rear diff lock at the same time. So if I am in CC and one of my rear wheels start to spin and I am stuck, I will deactivate CC and activate rear diff lock to help me out of the problem. I am impressed that the off road tacomas have those three systems to help out. Of course as the manual says , unlock the rear diff as soon as the vehicle moves and use the MTS or CC is needed. CC can be used for at the most 10 minutes as stated in the manual.

I've been in situations where the locker + ATRAC (CC without cruise control) would just kick the truck sideways where just using ATRAC would get me through the obstacle. I know in my 2010, any ATRAC action with the locker on only happens below 5mph where as it's constant with the locker off. I wonder if it's the same with the 3rd gen.

The A-TRAC is only found on the 2017 trd off road vehicles with a manual transmission. I have an automatic transmission and so do not have
A-TRAC. Page 257 of the 2017 owners manual states that the A-TRAC system, if equipped, is activated only when the vehicle speed is less than 3 mph. So I believe that what you say is still true, even on the 2017 manual transmission trd off road.
