What have you done to your Tacoma today?

Decided to change the tranny filter and fluid this morning. Thankfully no metal chunks in the tranny oil pan!

Side note, my Toyota dealer failed to give me the O ring for the tranny filter so I had to reuse the old one. Luckily the old one was in perfect shape.

Just looking at the wiring for the electronics in trans, I remember when there was just fluid & gears under the pan. Ya know, my friend owns a 5 bay shop in La Mesa & he's a cert. Toyota master mech. & he told me that they don't (Toyota) change these filters unless absolutely necessary , just clean them out & re use. Which makes sense seeing how it's a metallic mesh that filters out any flash or debris & the mesh is slightly magnetized to collect any small metal that's in fluid (apparently just strong enough to trap it but no so strong it can't be removed) Pretty damned smart IMO, I always thought it wasn't a serviceable item...

The filter had never been changed ever since the truck was bought. It has 200k on it now. I think the filter change was necessary.
