MPG

So guys I've had my truck for about two months now. I've put about 1900 miles on it but for the two months I've owned my truck it always shows I'm getting between 16 to 17 miles average. After doing some research and realizing some people I get in 20 to 26 miles per gallon in their Truck I was a little concerned that something was not working right in my truck. So yesterday I decided to reset my average miles per gallon meter. And to my surprise it is not registering 19 to 20 miles per gallon average City driving without changing the way I drive. Of anyone had the same problem. Also I do realize after turning off the truck the average mile per gallon that is shown when the truck is turned off it's not the same as when I'm driving.

When you turn it off, it shows the MPG for the most current trip you just drove. I got 7.3 MPG today on a 1+ mile drive home from my in-laws deer hunting. My current average MPG on this tank of gas is 18.6. Tuesday, coming back from deer camp in Pa. - secondary roads, up and down hills, small town traffic, stop and go - my 90 mile trip averaged 20.1 MPG. It was 19.7 on the way to camp.

I think, when driving, you are seeing the average MPG for the tankful (gas used to that point from last fill up). The horizontal bar graph shows the approximate CURRENT MPG as you are driving. Go up a hill, it drops below the mid point (15 MPG), coast down the same hill and it goes to the right maximum (30 MPG).

At least that is how my '16 Tacoma works. Hope this helps.

If I am wrong, someone can correct me.

No. That’s dead on. At ignition shut off it shows current trip mileage. In the display while the engine is running it shows current tank mileage since fill up. It’s a useful tool but if you want to get a truly accurate reading just do it the old fashioned way.
Fill up to fill up. Take the miles driven and divide it by the number of gallons of gas.
Ex. 200 miles ÷10 gallons= 20mpg

I got to do math now :(

I get also 15-16 mpg highway miles but it's also my driving. (75mph cruise and the ext.pwr. button pushed in. I'm sure I could get 20 plus mpg but when your a truck driver and you still only use one tank of fuel once a month. You could care less if you get 10mpg lol.

One month in, I'm averaging 12.7 litres per 100 km (18.6 mpg) in 50/50 city / highway driving, pretty happy with that considering I have a bit of a lead foot!
The transmission has been shifting better too, guess the adaptive learning is working...

I'm about a month in and averaging 19-20mph but Im pretty easy on the acceleration due to the amount of traffic lights in my area... I can never beat them.

Some recent trips for me: 4, one way of 47 +/- miles, secondary roads, some 4X4 use (min) = 20+ mpg
2, one way trips of 20 miles, secondary roads, 10+ miles 4X4 = 21 mpg

VERY happy with these results!

BigT, I have a 17' TRD sport 6spd MT. My commute is 40kilometers (25miles) one way, takes roughly 1hr-1.5hrs depending on traffic. I stay in the right lane on the highway and drive like a semi trucker. Slow accel/decel. I up shift so each gear will start at roughly 1000-1200rpm. For downshifting I try to get to a slower speed so I can let the clutch out without any clutch wear. Best mpg I've gotten was 9.1L/100km (25.8mpg), worst has been 14.3L/100km (16.4mpg). So glad I went with the manual trans after seeing issues with auto's shift points...

Mine didn’t get the expected mileage until it had 4 or 5 thousand miles. 19 to 20 around town. And 21 to 23 on highway currently
