Jaw drop oil change

Dont be mislead by the color of your oil. Dark does not equal dirty or ready for a change.
Regarding Used Oil Analysis, Blackstone Labs seems to be the one of choice over at BobIsTheOilGuy dot com.
Here is the link for Blackstone: https://www.blackstone-labs.com/

But I have a question. I have had my '11 4.0L for about 3 months and need to do the oil change. I looked in the owners manual but could not find a spec for the filter. Intending to go with the Toyota brand, the one I saw on Amazon is this: 90915-YZZD3. I also saw D2 and D1. Which is right? And I have always used Purolator or AC Delco in the past on other cars. Is this done in the Tacoma world?
thanks

2016/17 is 10k under nice driving conditions BUT the Owners Manual (that thing still in the shrink wrap) lists a whole bunch of "if's" that take you back to 5K. Short driving, towing, lots of idling, etc...

My dealer changes it at 5K. Already has the sticker on the screen. Going to be interesting.. I've changed my own oil for 55 years... now for three years (2 via Toyota-care, one more from the dealer) they do it. I might forget how :D

Got the notification Saturday it was time for an oil change. I went to Firestone to get it changed and was told my 17 Taco takes a specific synthetic oil. Needless to say an hour later turned out to be a $90 oil change. Is this normal or did I choose the wrong place to get it changed? If so what’s your suggestions on locations? I don’t do Walmart

You didn't get Toyota-care for free?

I do the oil changes my self. Toyota in bc Canada wants 149 dollars plus fore it . It’s expensive I buy mobile 1 at Costco on sale fore 6 litters $27 , fillter Walmart $4.50 k&n , $7 Fram . If you are going to do it you’re self it’s a little tricky first time but it’s easer then most cars you don’t even have jack it nice .buy the filter removal tool made by qwaker state

$149? That’s an insane ripoff. That’s $118 American.

I got the free oil change for 2 years when I got my 2016 Tacoma. I noticed the 12mm bolts On the front engine guard still had the rustproofing on them... No way a socket was ever on them. To make a long story shorter, I dumped the oil, changed the filter, which was never changed and put 6.2 qts. of 0-20w Mobil 1 full syn. In the engine. So much for taking to this Toyota dealer again. Change the oil, change the filter... Kinda like defacating without wiping if you ask me. Peace of mind, do it yourself! About $70.00 with the filter. Every 5K , especially when you have temp variations that get below 0. That makes condensation even in synthetic oil. Thanks for reading

That’s some BS. I wouldn’t take it to them again either. I’d be half tempted to call corpate and file a complaint against them. How many others are they doing that to.

I hear ya, I just thought I would put it on the line. I'm not here to start BS, but it happens all the time. You do get the free oil change.... But that's it. Thanks for reading, I hope you guys are checking . the bolts on your skid plates if someone else is changing your oil and filter!!!

I sit and watch my truck get its services. So far the dealer I take mine to has been honest in that they are doing.
