I had an ‘03 Edge that was a total lemon. But my dad ran an ‘84 model Ranger up until 2012 with minor difficulties.

In all honesty if that's what you've chosen for a Powerplant then bee prepaired to void any warranty you " Had "! But doable . .
 
I’ve had a fair amount of problems with my truck in the last 3 years. AC compressor went out, tire air pressure sensor went out, e-brake self destructed on the drivers side, leaf springs squeaked like crazy and the low and medium fan settings don’t work. It’s also unfortunate that that parts cost a lot more for Toyota too.

That said, I am rough on my truck, I take it off-roading a good amount so all and in all I can’t complain that much. Nothing seriously mechanical has broken and for that I’m thankful.
