Best riding 4" suspention lift - not worried about cost...

I have a 2017 Tacoma 4x4 TRD (Manual Trans) and I'm looking to get a good high quality 4" lift to run 33's or so. Want to see what you guys are having the best luck with. I ran a BDS dual shock 4-link on my F250 and absolutely loved the ride. Spending a little money upfront on the kit makes up for it with ride quality years later. Anyway I'm from LA and we don't fix our roads so I consider them the harshest terrain out there. I also will be on pipeline right-aways with this beast so we need to built something tough..

I had a 6" Fabtec on my last YOTA and other than going through ball joints every 4-6 months it was great. Rode horrible but looked mean, so I would like to stay with something mild at around 4 inch. I don't see any adjustable coil-shock systems offered past 2.75-3" so anyone ran the BDS 4" crossmember with the adjustable coil-shocks added to it?

No worries about the upper arms I'm pretty dead set on the Total Chaos 96504's

Most definitely get the coilover option for the best ride.
I hear you man, I just don't see that option with just the 4" lift. I see it with the 6" with a few manufacturers but I'm not wanting to go that high with the truck again. Short wife problems..can't fit in Houston parking garages...etc..

Yay! Another manny!!! Pipelines?!?! LA must mean Louisiana right? Man I miss tearing up those pipelines! What part are you in?

P.S.- a 2” lift on a 3rd gen is supposedly equivalent to a 3” lift on a 2nd gen. Same frame/ suspension + different weight = 1” higher ride height.

Welcome to the forum. Congrats on the new Tacoma.
There aren’t any 4” lifts for these trucks unless you’re prerunner and use spindles.
Best case 3” and you’ll probably need new UCA.
OME 887 coils with either bilstein 5100’s or OME 90000 series shocks with TC UCA and a progressive AAL in back will give you close to that 3” and ride comfortable.

I gotcha, I haven't heard much about the OME kits other than what people say on here about them. You feel that's a better adjustable system compared to ICON and Toytec's systems?

Probably about the same. Depends on what icon you’re looking at. If you have the money I’d get the OME BP-51 kit or the King OEM performance kit.

I'm looking at it now but not seeing the max height so I assume it's under 3". Think I should run those Total Chaos upper arms with it?

A 3” lift with 285/75/16 tires will sit 4” higher than stock. You’ll get 1” of height from the tires and 3” from the lift.

Yes your correct, no issues with clearance running that size tire? It's just under a 33"
A good alignment can help a lot. You’ll have a little rubbing on the wheel well and the cab mount with full lock and hitting bumps hard. No issues with clearance of UCA if you have a 0 or -6 offset wheel.

With ~3” of suspension lift, TC or equivalent UCA’s, and a ~33” tire, caster needs to be 2.5 bare minimum. You should specify this while the alignment is being done. I personally like the feel of 3.5-3.75 with -0.25 - -0.50 camber and 0.00 toe if your truck will cooperate this far. These numbers also help with the cab mount rubbing. 4.0 or more caster started to have a weird spot in steering on asphalt unless you have aftermarket LCA’s. Whew,... I had to let it out. Lol.

Someone’s paying attention.

Thanks for the tips I’m making the list. I haven’t started looking into the wheels yet but at least I have some guidelines to look at implementing. Since we are on the topic what what brand makes some good wheels? I am a strong believer that if something is replaced it’s a better more engineered part. Like the suspension I like quality work and longevity.

I see people running XD, fuel, method and Mickey Thompson I think they are all close as far as quality. I have MB TKO’s they’ve been on for over a year and have held up well.
It’s really about the look you want.

So, after several days of research and discussions with several people. I’ve narrowed it down to these items for the truck build. I haven’t made the order on anything but the replacement grill. I’m not a fan of chrome so that had to go first. Any advice or suggestions on other options before I swipe the card would be welcomed.

I would get fox over icon, king over fox

Dakar leaf pack

Total chaos

I wouldn’t get 20” wheels or 12” wide unless you live in Hawaii, have 35” tires or mall crawl, don’t go off-road with them or try to air them down. You’ll blow your bead, not in a good way.

Any of those rock sliders are better than no rock slider

Pro grille, faux is only $140 or so.

Aftermarket bumpers I would get one if my trucks OEM got wrecked.
That’s my nickel.

So you prefer the Kings? I’m leaning more to Fox mainly for the part availably. I busted a fox shock on my F250 and a local shop had it on the shelf. I’m going to look into King more before I order them.

Any specific company puts out better rock sliders then the options I found? Doesn’t matter if it’s welded or bolted and a prefab kit can always be adjusted with gussets and strong back. I just don’t have the time to build my own.

For the bumpers I will need something because that plastic mess will get busted up pretty good the first time I got to get the track hoe to pull me out of a mud pit. I plan on getting everything metal in raw form and adding stiffer plates/gussets where I see them lack. I’ll get everything texture-powder coated after.

Should have asked about the grill earlier I do like the TRD Pro grill, faux. All-well that’s why I’m knocking ideas around to find the best options.
