Ride from hell

I have owned quite a few Tacomas. 1 gen 2 gen before i aquired the 3rd.
No complantes about 1 & 2 BUT 3 IS ANOTHER story
I was a died in the wool tacoma fan and user. NO LONGER.
Toyota really messed up with this combination they know it i do believe.
EPA goverment Czars as well get the hell out of our li ves.
Every one has a opinion. Each one different
But you smart a**es try driving 1500 + miles holding your foot on the gas pedel drive all day long.
Then give hour opinion if you think its great i got a bridge for you too.
I also have my URD s power enhancers to get rid of
Maybe can use them for boat anchors LOL
Feel better?

Any truck stock will not do what the commercials say they will do, in my experience. Put some temporary air bags in the rear if your going to haul long distance like that and buy a manual transmission. Just my opinion. 1st post hi all, love my modidified 2018 Tacoma.

Welcome to the forum.

That’s an interesting take. I’ve taken my truck on 4-500 mile trips and didn’t notice any significant issues. It shifts into 6th a little too quick but it’s gotten better with time.
If on a 1500 mile trip why not use cruise control if you don’t want to hold your foot on the gas pedal all day long?
And if you hate the truck why not trade it?
But everyone has an opinion, like you pointed out.

I’ve had mine shift as low as 3rd and hold it for miles going 70mph running 4500 RPMs up hwy 26.View attachment 18088 I just kept thinking it’s got to down shift some time. It can’t keep holding 3rd gear until it peaks the mountain. It proved me wrong and held that MF until it peaked. View attachment 18089 I didnt start documenting for the first few miles I was just watching it thinking this is crazy. View attachment 18090 after 12 miles or so I finally took CC off. SMH haven’t used it since.

That’s crazy it stuck third that long.
I’ve had the same issue with it sticking gears with all the Toyota’s I’ve owned: RAV4, 4Runner, and every generation of Tacoma.
I’ve always just let off the gas a little and got back in the pedal after letting off. It seems to make it choose another gear.
I haven’t had one stick for that amount of time though.

News flash my friend I GOT RID OF IT .
FYI THE OV TUNE IS ONLY EFFECTIVE ON 2016 AND IT STILL DOESNT FIX RHE PROBLEM.
THE REASON FOR FOOT ON THE GAS BECAUSE IT COULD NOT KEEP THE SPEED UP WITHOUT SHIFTING FROM 6 TO5 SOMETIMES 4 OR EVEN 5TH
YOU TOWNEYS THAT USE IT AS A YOUR DRUGSTORE CADDY
NEED TO GET REAL.
IT MIGHT DO WHAT THE AD SAYS BUT ONLY ON A LIMITED BASES
FACTS ARE FACTS IN THE REAL
WORLD
LOST BIG TIME ON TRADE SO SOLD OUTRIGHT STILL LOST.
AFTER WAS TAKEN FOR TEST RIDE.

Realize something Im not saying all Tacomas are crap just the 3 gen 3.5 automatic .
Toyota really missed the boat on this one
They have made it almost impossible to crack the code.

Alright. You hate the third gen Tacoma. But you got rid of it so problem solved for you, right? Why bash it and everyone that disagrees with you after you’ve gotten rid of it?

Of course you lost on a trade in, you traded it in haha. Your impatience cost you the profit the dealership going to make by reselling it. Should have sold it privately. I don't know what you were hauling in the first place but sounds like you need a Tundra...

Did you tell the new owner about Tacoma forum? We’re always looking for new people!!!

So do we bash, trade, sell our Tacos at a loss because of the transmission? The 3.5 V6 did a great job pulling a load of decorative stones (5,100 lbs plus trailer) from Wichita to Tulsa last weekend. I ran in S4 at 3,200 rpm cruising almost effortlessly at 70 mph. Dumped the load and trailer then the transmission dance began on the hilly turnpike with the selector in D. Drives me crazy.

I nearly signed the papers for a new Colorado Z71 last week but backed out. The two trucks don’t compare. So far 12,000 trouble free miles.

I am going to keep mine and bitch to my nephew who works for Toyota. It’s my right. I have the SSP and it helps. So I am going to drive my Taco and enjoy everything else about it. Might investigate OVTUNE and send my nephew the bill.

I have liked having a DCLB but Im almost over my 2017 Tacoma. I’ve been very patient with the issues it’s had. I knew going into it somethings would probably come up on a new engine/transmission. I waited a year to buy one hoping that Toyota would figure most of it out within that time. How I was wrong.
The rear diff leaking again broke me.
So... I called corporate for the fifth time a few days ago. I was told they would send a master tech out at the end of the month to look at my truck and see what’s happening. They said after that they can try to fix it again and I keep driving it or I can work towards lemon lawing it and having them buy it back.
After I saw my diff leaking again I went to the dealer to look at what they had and saw this 6A24966F-7811-4B99-B107-C7727D0CB71F.jpeg 2018 4runner TRD off-road on their lot. It wasn’t as nice as I thought it was going to be. The Tacoma interior with premium tech package is nicer IMO. They where going to give me $38k for my Tacoma and the price on the 4Runner was $37.
After negotiating I realized I need a truck and walked away. I’m sure the sales guy and sales manager where sad.
So I kept searching...
I found a 1st gen 2003 DCSB with 3.4L 88k miles on it but the guy wanted $16,500 firm and it’s a SB I like having the LB but this truck was nice. I don’t know about $5k over book nice though.
I found a lot of second gens they all have 50-250k miles and want 12-34k for them. I also was never a fan of how they look. They look to bubbly in the front to me.

I went to look at a 2018 TRD off-road DCLB yesterday. It had the tech package with the JBL and black leather seats but the rear bumper was chrome plastic it did not have the blind spot or the rear sonar. None of the 2018 off-roads I saw had color matching bumpers or parking sensors. I don’t understand why they would not add them to an already loaded Tacoma. The chrome bumper caps made them all look cheap.
I started looking at other trucks and don’t like the way any of them look as much as I like the way my Tacoma looks.
I’m still looking for a 2018 Tacoma that has everything I want. If I can’t find one before I find something else I may not be a 3rd gen Tacoma owner for very much longer. In the year and 3 months I’ve owned my Tacoma I’ve been without it for 22 days, it’s been in the shop 11 times for TSB’s, recalls and other issues they have no fix for. It’s “normal”

That’s crazy man. I definitely understand the frustration with 11 times in the shop. There’s lemons in every make and model, maybe yours is.

Finally someone who understands not some jerk preaching righteous crap about what I should of say and not say.
I also have had numerous issues.
As for hauling that I do. Just my sorry 260# and a suitcase.
That is pretty sad. Everyone is entitled to make a living just not at someone's expense.
I even installed a shift kit better but no cigar,

You have read my posts and I feel for you. Fortunately I haven’t had any problems with mine. The transmission shifting is my only real dislike.

Did the 2018 drive/shift differently or about the same.

Good luck with your search.
