Left My Taco in Santa Fe

I called the body shop and talked to the person writing the estimate. Went very well. I told him I didn’t want the truck back. He said he wouldn’t want it back either and that is after his shop did the repairs. He is going to get repairs to 80%. I told him if I was in Santa Fe I would buy his...

Left My Taco in Santa Fe

I am glad this thread is taking the light hearted path. So I was on the phone with the adjuster from my insurance company and she told me i didn’t do what I was supposed to do when she learned the truck had been towed to an impound yard. Ohhh, I set her straight. She thought the truck was...

Left My Taco in Santa Fe

The cat survived and the driver received stitches. I spoke with her before she was transported to the hospital to let her know we were concerned about her. My 93 year old mother was helping get things out of my truck. Well, more like moral support. She made the trip from Oklahoma for my...

Left My Taco in Santa Fe

I said good bye to my Taco Saturday. A 90 year old woman was taking her sick cat to the vet when it puked in her lap. She never saw my parked Tacoma. Imagine my surprise when we returned from lunch to find fire trucks, police cars and an ambulance in front of the house we rented for the weekend...

    De-badging

Might help the transmission stay in high gear longer.

    Pulling rv/camper with a gen 2

Now that’s some real weight. My grandfather bought one like that one only black. He drove it a number of years with pride. Grandpa would complain about how poorly it ran. My dad would bring it home and the mechanics would scratch their heads. Dad would fill it with Ethyl gas and make the trip...

    Transmission Issues

Love the truck. HATE the transmission.

    De-badging

I removed all of the chrome badging and replaced them with black. I also replaced the stock grille with a Chinese TRD Pro grille. Love the contrast. Everything else is pure stock. Personal preference. 2017 Super White TRD Off Road.

    WAX

I use Turtle Wax Ice liquid and spray. Very easy to use. Doesn’t hurt to get it on the black moulding. There are a lot of good waxes out there as you will hear.

    Ride from hell

You have read my posts and I feel for you. Fortunately I haven’t had any problems with mine. The transmission shifting is my only real dislike. Did the 2018 drive/shift differently or about the same. Good luck with your search.

    Ride from hell

So do we bash, trade, sell our Tacos at a loss because of the transmission? The 3.5 V6 did a great job pulling a load of decorative stones (5,100 lbs plus trailer) from Wichita to Tulsa last weekend. I ran in S4 at 3,200 rpm cruising almost effortlessly at 70 mph. Dumped the load and trailer...

    Ride from hell

I had a second gen that did everything I wanted it to but really wanted 4WD as a backup. I bought the third gen with 4WD. I have learned I need to put the transmission selector in S4 when towing. That works. But in normal driving conditions on the turnpike the third gen transmission sucks...

    Heavy towing

11.5 mpg. No wind in Kansas or Oklahoma. That’s rare. 13.7 mpg with the trailer empty going from Oklahoma City to Wichita in S4. I wish I knew how much that trailer weighed. It felt heavy. The load was placed properly so the truck didn’t squat more than two inches.

    Heavy towing

They bought 300 stones weighing 17 lbs each. The pallet (240 stones) would not fit in the bed. I like the trailer. Those stones are rough.

    Heavy towing

Yesterday we helped some friends pick up decorative stone in Wichita then take it to Tulsa. 5,100 lbs. of stone, plus trailer, plus 4 adults. Then they added four large clay pots, plants, and bags of dirt. I did what everyone has suggested and drove in S4. We cruised easily at 70 mph at just...

    Ride from hell

Ok. I just test drove a new Colorado. Loved the Bose. The eight speed transmission downshifted almost as much as the Tacoma on an eight mile test drive on I 40. It downshifted to seventh and a couple of times sixth at 75 mph never running more than 2,800 rpm. The downshift to sixth happened when...

    Car Sales People Experiences

It just quit raining so my ex brother-in-law and I are going to drive our Tacomas to Academy and see what we can stir up in the hunting/fishing department. Then go fishing. Safe and enjoyable Memorial Day weekend to all.

    Car Sales People Experiences

I had too much time on my hands yesterday so I stopped at the Chevrolet dealership to check out a new Colorado Z 71 and a ZR 2 siting next to each other. Didn’t take long to appreciate my Tacoma or for the scrawny young kid salesman to start hovering next to me. He didn’t know the difference in...

    Inconsistent braking

Well not so sure about that but.... Is there any truth to one of the posts that said the Tacoma will gear down to second then first when coming to a stop?

    Ride from hell

Which argument one uses about this transmission and its constant shifting proves many owners are not satisfied with either its design (gear ratios) or its programming. I will take the stand that running 4500 rpm to ascend a hill at 70 mph is ridiculous. OVTunes has proven the drive ability of...
