AVS Step Shield ?

I saw this item on Whip's Tacoma.
The round rubber gasket that go's across the bottom of my door when you get in your Tacoma is completely worn through, I don't even know what it is for !

Can anyone enlighten me for it's use and should I replace it?

The "AVS Step Shield" seems to stop it's deterioration from traffic wear. Any pros and cons on it?

It's just to protect your door sill. I dropped my Maglite on the rear door sill so now I have 2 permanent dents which I covered with the Stepsheilds.

Yeah I like them. I don't have to worry so much about where I step. I wish I could protect the carpet though. They have double sided tape on the back.
