What is good for cleaning and polishing my dull black fender flares on a 2004 Tacoma 4X4?

Recently watched a DIY vid on restoring them, the guy used a heat gun and slowly moved from one end to the other.
It completely brought it back to that dark black just like new look. No chemicals, sprays, just heat.
Although they did warn Do Not Touch the fender flare until it cools.
Not sure I'd try it, I'd probably overheat it and warp it. I'll see if I can find the link, it's on YouTube
