I need some help please

I have a 99 tacoma that i need help with. First off after it got warmed up it wouldnt want to crank back up sometimes not everytime till it cooled off. I talked with a buddy and he told me to change the coil pack and the pluges and wires. So I did but it wouldnt do anything but idle right if ya gave it gas it would start skipping and back fireing. so I changed everything back to the original stuff and it is still doing the same thing. I cant find any vacume lines loose either. I even unplugged the battery. but the check engine light isnt coming on either. Can someone please help me?
 
It's sounds like it could be your engine timing. Does your engine have a timing chain? Most 4cyl Tacomas do. They wear out after a long while. How many miles are on your truck?
