issues with 2016 Tacoma

TC1601 is the update i had done recently. It's fixed my other three problems I had with the transmission but it gave it a new problem. It does not like to use six gear if cruise control is on the second you take off drop in the overdrive just like it is supposed to be. I had a major blowout at the dealership and ended up recording the whole conversation I'm waiting for Toyota to get back to me before I send them the audio from my conversation. I will try and post my conversation so everyone can laugh at how scandalous the car dealers are as soon as I figure out how to do it.

Think hard about posting an audio recording. In some states even making a recording can get you in a jackpot with the criminal code. Also, the dealer or the subjects of the recording could make a civil issue out of it. Also, most disputes about cars require some type of arbitration. An arbitrator might take a dim view of you posting a recording in a public forum even if it is legal.

I'm not lawyer and I have no legal training. But, I do know that what feels good now might be seen as spiteful by a third party and that will not help you later.

I really appreciate the input and that is definitely some food for thought. I did however ask for permission before I started recording and also reminded them 10 minutes into the conversation that I was recording the conversation in which both parties agreed it was OK. Although it did piss them off highly that I was recording this I find that it is very unfortunate we have a system that basically gives power to people who could be doing the wrong thing. One would think a video or recording would be proof positive evidence about a particular scenario. That's why we call this a ****stem. Consumers who try and protect their own butts are the ones who end up in the hot seat. The people should unite and change the way the legal system is because it's pure crap. I will however hold onto my piece of evidence and keep it private until I need to unload the ammo with corporate.

Please tune back I will advise as soon as dealer advises issue

2016 Tacoma Trd Off-road. (Silver Bullet)
2015 Tacoma Sr5. (Polar Bear)
I absolutely have this problem going on right now and was told by the dealer that this is normal operation. They treat me like I am a kid with his first set of car keys. I even had the service technician go for a ride as he tried to explain to me that that is normal operation for cruise control which is complete bullshit. He advised me to manually turn off cruise control and reset it every time my truck drops into fifth or fourth gear on the highway. That is absolutely ludicrous. Since I have the recent transmission update I can no longer use cruise control on the highway unless I want to remain in fifth gear averaging 16.2 miles to the gallon. I'm not concerned with the gas mileage, I can afford to put fuel in my truck but the issue I have is there is a six gear which is not engaging properly whenever cruise control is turned on. The second you shut off cruise control it drops into sixth gear as it should even if you are going 80 miles an hour. I have never been treated like such an incompetent driver in my life. I have built multiple cars work on my tractor and have had a few hot rod jet boats which require someone who is very mechanically inclined to troubleshoot. I think the service managers know there is a problem but they want to treat us consumers like we are brain-dead and have no clue of how a vehicle should or should not perform I have never been more insulted in my life by a car dealer. Imagine being told to reset your cruise control every time you hit a little hill that is absolutely crazy.

I was contacted by Toyota corporate today and they are sticking one of their corporate managers on my case. Yesterday the truck decided to do it's typical surging as I try to stop coming out of the parking lot. I have about had it with this truck. If someone else was driving this truck they very likely will cause an accident since the truck does not like to stop when the brakes are applied. It's seem to do good for the last 1200 miles after the last update but as of yesterday the strange surging when the brakes are applied started to happen again not to mention my current non-operative cruise control situation. It will be interesting to see what Toyota does for me, this truck is completely unsafe and I will not let my wife take the truck anywhere. It sucks because it's the nicest truck I have ever had as far as features, ride, and looks. If they offer another vehicle maybe I will try my luck at the forerunner, I guess it depends on what the offer on the table is. I am really missing my GMC Yukon as of now. It got 21mpg on the highway and drove like a dream with tons of power to boot. Im still smiling and wont cave in. Its a rocky road ahead but im sure Toyota will make this right.

I am working with Toyota on returning this piece of ****. This is the most frustrating and annoying piece of crap truck on the market. I already spent $2400 on a canopy and am ready to call it a loss. My truck has had every single problem listed on this forum plus it likes to downshift into fourth gear when I am cruising down the Siskyou's going to California going 70 miles an hour. The dealer try to tell me it's called active engine braking but that is a bunch of bullshit. A truck should not be screaming at 4200 RPM while you are trying to coast down the hill for no apparent reason. Active engine braking is one thing and I understand what active engine braking is and how it works. I hate the fact that the Toyota dealers try to treat me like I am a 16-year-old kid with his first vehicle. This is not how a truck should perform I should be able to coast down the hill without it slamming into fourth gear. And it pisses me off I can't use cruise control on a trip unless I want to sit in fourth and fifth gear. What is the point in the six speed transmission… Just so they can get the window sticker to say 23 miles per gallon on the highway, I am so annoyed and tired of this piece of **** truck I can't wait for them to consider it a lemon and take his mother back. I purchase a new vehicle every 2 to 3 years and this vehicle is by far the most annoying and upsetting vehicle to drive I have ever owned, Second to this being the worst truck is the Nissan Titan which needed two transmissions within 60,000 miles and I never go off-roading with my new vehicles as I own a 79 K20 Chevy with 35 inch tires for off-road purposes.

on the visit, last Monday at Karl Malone Toyota.. and two transmissions updates and
after wait there for almost 2 or 3 hours,Geoffrey the tech said ...
Yeah I noticed it wanting to stay in a lower gear on the freeway and the revs were pretty high. I didn't get a chance to take it up any steep inclines, but I could see how it might act that way.

Hey. Thx for coming in. I wish there was more I could do for you today on your truck. I agree that there is definite issues with the truck, but from where I'm at we cant change the characteristics of the truck based on the symptoms. The truck was designed to act that way and I can't physically make it not do that. We're gonna go ahead and contact the field specialist and make him come look at your truck to acknowledge the problem and then we can go from there.

Thx for coming in and I'll keep in touch with you about this issue.

My impressions about Geoffrey it is good.. he is Honest guy!
bottom line my truck today can't be fix... and I did open a case with Toyota and they will take it from there...
I do like my truck hopefully Toyota field specialist tech can fix it!!!

Are you still here in this forum? I need to ask you few things. Thanks

I can relate to tacoloco. Exactly same problems I have, even after tranny fluid and tsb for transmission. Cruise control is worthless as it relentlessly shifts from 4 to 5 to 6 back to 5 etc on flat roads. Drove across kansas with cruise on and got 13.0mpg. Drove back across kansas no cruise, avg 21.2mpg. Why? That damn shift happy tranny!.

I hope you have called corporate and started a case on this issue. They won't fix it unless enough people tell them they have the issue. This is how it works. Those who feel they are having an issue, let your dealer know, call to get a case number if your dealer does not. If they are working for you "The Customer" a case will be started and settled when enough people have the issue. Average of $40k per truck! New model... If their CFO is doing their job right, they budgeted for these issues and will fix them. Keep your customers happy Toyota.

People have no time for that. Call corporate, fight with local dealers, wait hoping a fix comes soon. Meh. Ill sell mine and let some other schmuck deal with that mess. Sorry. Cant agree with this line of thinking. If the new model has this many issues, DONT SELL IT YET. FIX IT BEFORE OFFERING IT TO THE PUBLIC.

I no where said this was the right way to do business. These new vehicles are all computerized. From the push button start, transfer case, transmission, crawl control... The best tests can not predict "all" issues that are going to come off the mass production assembly line. With that said low transmission fluids is absolutely unexceptible, low fluids period should not be an issue.
I said "this is how it works." This is how they have made them. This is how they put them out. I don't agree with it. I do agree don't buy one. Sale it if you can, loose thousands of $$. If you can get them to trade it in or buy it back do it that way. Or if you love your truck and want it to last and drive great call corporate and make them aware another vehicle is having the same issue. Make them fix the issues. They have a 3yr 36k mile warranty use it. They will fix them If enough people have the issue and report it.
There are also lemon laws. Know your rights as a consumer.

Not mad at ya OR17TRD, Im so frustrated with this mess ill be ok with losing a few grand to get into a vehicle that works. It sucks. Bad. But life's too short to wait months, maybe years before the many issues with these trucks get fixed, assuming they CAN fix them. I hate driving this pos. I dread getting in it every day. Ive fought with the dealer for 15 months with 0 results. **** toyota and this pos TRD, or TURD is more appropriate.

I completely understand your frustration. I did not take offense or think you where mad at me directly. Im sorry you have had to deal with this for the past 15 months. I'm sorry the dealerships service department in your area is not working with you.
My 2017 TRD OR DCLB has been at the dealer 4 times and has been there for a total of 8 days today. I'm driving a Rav 4 right now lol. I've owned my truck for 5 weeks and now over 1 of those weeks have not driven it due to being in the shop.
I've went to multiple dealers before one finally started trying to fix things and opening cases with corporate for me. It's a huge waste of time and I agree life is to short. I'm still fresh in this and I'm willing to go a little further to keep my truck for now. I do love it.
I just want it to drive like a new truck should. The entire situation sucks for lots of us. I can only have hope it's going to all work out.

I would be frustrated too. You plan and save and the truck turns out to be a POS. Kinda like this app. It doesn't like longshore anymore so I had to come in under another name...
