Why would the lower control arms need to be replaced on a 2003 Prerunner with 85k miles? I was experiencing chatter when applying the brakes. The shop advised that I needed to replace the lower control arms, bushings, and steering bushings to correct the problem as well as an alignment. It has been driven mostly on freeways and has never been in an accident. Any advice would be appreciated. d

The rubber bushings degrade with time as well as miles. 11 years is quite some time. I bet your rotors are warped too.
No doubt about the rubber and the brakes were brought up to specs at the dealer recently. I wonder tho if the control arms are a must for replacement. I would thing the bushing replacement would suffice. The control arms are pretty beefy parts or are the bushings and control arms one single piece? Thanks for the info. d
