Ive heard mixed reviews... Can having no muffler actually cause damage to you engine further down the road?
 
I don't know about damage per say, however a gas engine needs a certain amount of back pressure to operate properly, diesels operate better with the least you can get. The problem is most manufactures create more than the optimal amount of back pressure by plugging them up to quiet them, however a straight pipe is not the answer either. You would need a dyno to see what youre optimann numbers would be with less restriction and see where with les and less restriction youre hp and torque start falling off.

Like Bob said, you need a balance.
Low restriction, but some restriction.
Otherwise just eliminate all that weight and mess entirely. Just unbolt the header(s)/exhaust manifold(s) from the head(s) and toss it all in the trash.
