Is there a way to seal this off from dirt an mud? Very aggravating!!

You can try putting a self adhesive weatherstrip on the door. Just a thought. I haven't done it but I've thought about it.

That might work, but it seems like the mud an dirt is coming from under the truck not through the bed you can even see the asphalt straight through where the cover goes

It's a $200 dollar solution, but it's completely sealed, lockable and a steel box...

I was thinking maybe rubber grommets around the "teeth" on the bottom of the door, and then a very thin stick on rubber gasket between the door and the compartment.

Here is what I did. Used formica top and bottom and bathroom sealer . Has enough clearance for the latch and locks with just the taper
