Power Steering went out

Over the weekend the power steering in my 2005 access cab TRD off road as I was heading into a curve at the bottom of a hill. Took me a second to realize what was going on. Almost didn’t make the turn. Fluid has been leaking since.

Any ideas on what this may cost me? I’m not one to work on this kind of thing.

Bummer.
Depends on where it’s leaking and what’s going to have to be replaced. Dealers will typical charge the most. If you have a local mechanic you trust and does good work that’s probably the best place to go. You can take it in to be Dx. Then call around and see who will do it the cheapest.

Turned out that the rack had rotted right through. Replacing it and the lines will run $800-$900.

Apparently this is a rather common thing in the north east with all the salt on the roads in the winter.
