Tire and wheel size with a 6" lift

Hey guys.
Was wondering , I'm going to be putting a 6.5" lift on my 07 Tacoma and I keep getting confused with tire sizes and wheel sizes. I'm tossing up between a tire of 285/70/17 or a 35/12.50/18. What I'm having trouble understanding is the width of the tire to the width of the wheel. It's not making sense to me whether need to be the same size or could be different.?? Any help would be great

I have the Fabtech 6" lift with 35x12.50x22. You could run 35x12.50x18 and have no problem.

What's the offset and width of your rims ?

My guess is 22x12" -44offset.
