I just got one and used it a couple of times. The rubber seems pretty soft, but I havent noticed big scratches...yet. I have noticed microscopic scratches here and there, but these days anything will scratch paint on a vehicle. I did use one of those california dusters on my truck before, think that may be the culprit.
However, It does work really well shedding water!

We use them at the Toyota dealership everyday just make sure your truck is super clean and no contaiminates in the clear coat it tends to pull them out and drag it across the paint and that's were you get scratches use a clay bar while it's soaped up and rinse your paint should me clean

I have one but only use it to clear the water off my tonneau when i wash it.
