Changed my rear differential fluid and found 2 things just hanging out on the drain plug. Was just changing the fluid to change it.20200422_155009.jpeg20200422_155006.jpeg20200422_154957.jpeg

did you find anything out? im not wise to these things, but like to see what folks say so i can learn a little bit. i've heard that some metal shavings is normal part of wear, but these seem quite chunky to me. if its not gold nuggets, then it might not be good. what would you have to do? run it for a while, then check again to see if more chunks are sticking to it? at least you know your plug is still doing its job.

Those are pieces of a snail shell. It’s a very rare snail that is only found in the land of Tacornia. They develop slowly and when they become fully mature they turn into crude. All that’s left is what you see there. No one has ever found a living one. It’s rare to ever see that large of shell fragments. OP is one of the lucky few.

hahahaha! Tacornian snails... okay. [emoji23]

I looked at them really close and it looks like it's from the factory where the holes were drilled and did not go fully through and when a bolt was tightened up. The metal peices fit together and had a point to it. The oil looked very good for 100,000 miles. There weren't social distancing though lol

I see pieces of pinion, like mentioned any excessive whining on deceleration ?? Sad truth is it might grenade the next time you roll down the street or it may last the lifetime of ownership... Only thing certain is when it DOES blow, you'll know it haha

Not concerned with it. Not making any noises. Its looks like part of a bolt hole that wasn't fully drilled out from the factory and when the bolt was put in it pushed it out.

Looks like slag chunks, like you said. Just keep an ear and eye on it. Might want to do another change in 3 or 4k.
