    Anytime fogs mod

You can turn them on or off with the dash switch button. No need to have parking or headlights on with this mod. I use them sometimes at dusk or dawn or when it's cloudy & raining. Fog lights are aimed low not as high as the regular lights. On dark highways I run both fogs & reg headlights no...

    Frame rot

Couldn't tell you which is best or how often. I would say the thicker oil would last longer over a thinner one. As I stated above I plan on using my old engine oil since it has rust inhibitors in it already and also it will have small metal shavings and gas by-products which also repel water. I...

    Frame rot

It sure will, all kinds of oil will. A few links. All I did was google 'oil as rust prevention' and it gave me a huge amount of links to all kinds of oil based products. Oil prevents rusting, because it naturally resists water by its very nature. Rusting occurs when oxygen molecules in water...

    Frame rot

Changeling, your best bet for a 1st gen is to buy one that has never left the southwest desert area. Toyota farmed out the frames to the Dana Corporation to have them treated with corrosion preventative and they failed big time, enough so that Toyota sued them and won big bucks. $25 mil I...

    Frame rot

The '95~00 models were bought back. The '01~04 models got the frame replaced. Also it was never a recall, it was a letter sent out that extended the frame warranty to 15 yrs in case of perforation. The letter got you a free frame inspection at Toyota and if they decided it was unsafe to drive...

    Transmission Fluid

I understand why some call it a screen since that's basically what it is, a fine mesh screen. I'm guessing, they are thinking filters are only the paper kind. I don't have a filter since I have a manual transmission. But, this is what they look like. The Tacoma '05~10 V6 5-speed uses HCT...

    Transmission Fluid

 meh, I must have a faulty manual then, it calls it a filter.

    Transmission Fluid

Proper fluid change requires dropping the pan and changing the filter. Doesn't do any good to just change the fluid. The filter will still have all the grime & gunk. It would be like changing your engine oil but not the oil filter.

    Transmission Fluid

Measure how much you drained out and replace at least that much. An '08 should be drained and filled every 30k according to the manual. You didn't mention what speed transmission so....... 4-speed Auto = Toyota Genuine ATF Type T-IV fluid 2008 & earlier 2.1 quarts 2009 & after 2.9 quarts...

    Murder your chrome!

Don't use the derp, one misstep and it will peel right off. IMHO derp is only good for the emblems. Pull them off, sand them and paint.

    2010 Tacoma Brakes chirpin

If you know what to look for check your brakes, if not some shops will do a free brake inspection or it could run up to $40 for an inspection. Call & shop around. If not the brakes could be wheel bearings. About 2 yrs ago Firestone inspected mine for free on my PreRunner. Showed me the problem...

    Access Cab model recall

I don't think slamming the door is the cause. Probably opening and closing it normal will cause it to eventually work the screw loose. (vibrations) Mine on the driver side fell out about 3 weeks after I bought my truck an '06 with 47k I bought Jan this yr. I just put it back in and tightened...

    New owner with questions

Recalls are done for safety issues, an inoperative compass/temp gauge doesn't qualify as such. However, there are several manuals you can purchase at most auto parts store for the Tacoma. I have a Haynes manual I use when needed. As for a blown fuse you can purchase a fuse tester fairly...
