I recently bought a 2wd crew cab 2004 in excellent shape.

I didn't notice this about the transmission during test drive, but now I'm noticing it.

anyone has the link for the fix for this issue below:
Automatic Transmission - thunk/clunk when taking off or stopping
other than that the transmission works good....

Any links for a fix or any other help will be appreciated!

Thanks

Check your U joints.

It sounds to me like axle wrap. Or it could be you need to grease your slip joint in the back of the drive shaft just before your rear dif. If your leafs springs are good and not worn out, then grease the slip joint. I had the same problem and that was what fixed it.

To me it sounds like axle wrap. I had the exact same problem and I identified it by mounting a GoPro under my truck and sure enough...axle wrap. If you google what is axle wrap you can understand it better but basically it occurs when your leaf springs soften up over time. All of our tacos have this or will get this because they don't have heavy duty suspension like bigger trucks do. There are several ways to fix this from ladder bars to new leaf packs or helper springs. I went with the hellwig helper springs which solved it completely. It also gave me an extra 2 inches of lift in the back. It feels much better to drive with them, a little tighter in the back but much better handling and towing. I can find the link for what I put on my 03 prerunner if you want. But long story short, you don't want to let it get worse because it can damage your drive shaft, u joints, transmission, or transfer case by changing the angle on the u joint and pulling on the drive shaft after it gets more severe. The helper springs are the cheapest fix imo. They have held up so far for me but I'd imagine they'll wear out after another 10 years or so just like the stock springs if the truck is still around
