2005 Tacoma performance

Alright so here's the deal. I have a 2005 Tacoma with a 2.7l I4 manual trans. I'm wanting to make an actual prerunner and this truck is well on its way I'd say. The cab is completely caged and it has a rear bed cage with shock mounts as well front and rear bumper welded to the frame. It has fiberglass fenders in front and bedsides in rear. Has a couple light bars and racing bucket seats with 5 point harnesses on them. My point is a lot has been done with this truck already so here is my question. Obviously the problem with the truck is it has the 2.7 so my question is this. What is worth the money? Is it worth paying the 5k for a supercharger or is it worth spending some money on a 4.0 swap? I'm serious about this so please don't just write me off here. I'm willing to pay that kind of money for a supercharger but not if I could complete a 4.0 swap for a similar amount of money. I understand all of the issues with the 4.0 swap and I know it is not easy but my guess is that the price would be similar in the end to just buying a supercharger kit. Please don't just say buy a new truck. I haven't seen much about a successful 4.0 conversion so if anyone knows of one I'd love to hear about it. Also curious about which transmission should be paired with the 4.0 (manual of course). I'm ready to spend some big money but my question is really which one is going to be worth the money and time for the increased performance? Thanks for your opinions. I'll try to post some pics of the truck below.

Honestly you should have just bought a 4.0. I don't know if it's worth the price of the swap, consider the price of the engine and swap + 5000$ or more for the sc. if I were you I would go for a tundra engine

I would pair the 4.0 or the smaller tundra engine with the 6 speed, I'm not sure if a 5.7 (bigger tundra engine) could even fit, but if you could do that then that would be BA

I didn't do all the work on the truck. I bought it like this for very cheap as a project so I don't mind spending money. I have thought about a v8 swap but that would be much more involved than the 4.0 swap. I feel like there can't be too many things that would need to be fabricated for it besides a transmission mount

Not too many things for a v6 swap I mean. If I decided to do a v8 swap I would have to make almost everything completely custom

Go with the v6 swap. With a v8 swap there's a lot of bullshit you gotta do to make it fit. Unless it's a small block v8.

Had a buddy put an ls motor in his x runner taco, no gauges work thow everything runs off the little external computer thing

I've been doing a lot of research and have a buddy who does ls swaps into everything you can think of so I think I'm going to go with the ls swap. Maybe I'll post a thread so everyone can follow my progress and I can show everyone how I did everything
