2013 SR5 for mild offroading

Hi guys,

My apologies if this is a well discussed topic...

Last week I bought my first ever vehicle, a 2013 Toyota Tacoma SR5 4cyl access cab. I knew I wanted a tacoma for a while and I'm thrilled with it. Just some questions...

I'm not an offroader for a hobby, however I do fish and hunt and sometimes that requires a bit of trail running and getting into some mud/rocks. I was wondering what limitations my truck will have being that its a 4cyl, not the "offroad" edition and no mods done to it. I did put Duractrac tires on it so that should help. I'm worried about not having the air lock like the TRD.

Should I be very cautious where I take this thing? Or should it be still very capable despite lacking some features?

Thanks in advance for responses

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on the new truck.
I ran the 2.7 liter four cylinder in a 4x4 for many years and believe me, your truck is very capable. That drivetrain took me places I shouldn’t have been and got me out of spots I never thought I’d get out of. For mild off-roading, snow, mud, and most trails your truck will be fine.
People ran 4x4 trucks for years without all the fancy equipment we have now and went up the same trails we do now.
Good tires, 4 wheel drive, and common sense go a long way.
