I feel my 2017 Tacoma surges when I accelerate from 0-35 MPH (don't know how else to describe it).

I felt it more when I first got mine but I’m almost use to it more now. It’s the Atkinson motor.
The lunging/surging does seem worse when the truck is new.
FWIW I left my battery unhooked for an hour to drain (hoping to reset my Entune head unit) and the truck was back to lunging considerably worse again.
You will get used to it with the Atkinson motor but also once the truck is used to your driving style hopefully it’ll be better.
