2021 TRD Off Road Long Bed

Hello everyone!

Well, after waiting more than a month I finally got my Tacoma! It wasn't 100% what I was wanting but it is just fine for me. Some of the options I was looking for wouldn't have been useful for my working environment and not having them is for the best. Leather seats was the big one. I won't want to get a rip in the leather and have to fork over a bunch of cash to get it fixed.

This build will take me a while to complete. There are some things that I really need to get installed so I can use the truck for work more. Right now I can only secure my tools in the back seat, so the Decked Drawer system will be the first thing to be ordered.

If anyone has any experience with the Decked drawer system that isn't favorable, I'd like to hear why it isn't. I'll be using it primarily for construction work and nearly every review for this use case has been positive. But I really want to hear more of the negative to see if it will out weigh the positive and keep me from wasting my money.

Ultimately I want to have my ham radio gear installed, a power inverter in the cab, seat covers (looking at Wet Okole seat covers), a camper shell, exterior lighting and window tinting. There will undoubtedly be more added to the list but for now this will do for me.

I'd appreciate any advice on what to stay away from and why I should. When looking to spend a fair amount of money I want to make sure I get the most for what I pay for.

Here are some photos of the exterior. More photos will come soon.

The photos come as errors for me. :(:(

@B-Man @Scott Wyman

Here is the suffix of the link to my album, it was private but I have changed that.
/media/albums/2021-tacoma-trd-off-road.27/

How does one delete an album or or photos from their media? Before I read the pop-up drop down menu I created another album that was not private. Now I have two albums with the same media.

Huh. That's odd. So far you and Scott Wyman are the only people who can't see them.

Is there another way to post photos other than using the little camera icon?
The way I do it.....I save my pics to my downloads......in the lower right there is the 'upload a file' button.......I click that and then click 'choose file' and upload from my downloads. You could give that a try!

Drawers have been installed but a flare up of gout has once again kept me from getting out to take some photos of the truck. I hope that by this weekend my foot will be healed up and I will once again be able to walk. Should that happen I want to get out to get some photos of the truck and the drawer system.

The next item on the purchase list will be the mounting bracket for either ditch lights with an antenna extension or just a hood antenna mount. I'm leaning toward the ditch light mounts for now, I can always get lights later. The antenna is the main thing I need to get mounted. As a ham radio operator and with an amateur radio license plate on the truck, I need to get my radio installed. Right now I am using one of my hand held radios.

I have finally installed my phone mounts and the control head for my amateur radio. The main unit of the radio is a bit big to fit anywhere convenient. It won't fit in the center console, under one of the front seats, in the storage space under the back seat nor behind the back seat (too much crap under and behind the rear seats already). It does seem to fit nicely in the glove box though. I'm really considering that is the place where it will live. This will place it closer to where the antenna mount will go, an antenna extension off of one of the ditch lights that will eventually be installed.

The phone mount was interesting to get in place. Yes, I have two X-Grips on there. One for my phone and one for the wife's phone. When we travel she likes to watch movies on her phone and my phone is for navigation and my music/audio books. Unfortunately, I ordered the wrong size X-Grips. These are the large ones, I need the smaller sized mounts. They will work but they are just too big for the install.

As for ditch lights, I'm looking at the Cali Raised ditch lights with the side projecting LED's. Has anyone installed these lights on their truck? Are they any good? Worth the money?

I also put in a cargo net that covers the entire bed. It too is a little on the large size for the install. Oh well. It works and it gives me more room to work with.

Cheers,
Olli
