4 cylinder vs 6

I am just now shopping for a Tacoma, new or late model used. The difference in price of the engines id quite significant. I won't be doing any heavy hauling, just a utility trailer from time to time. I do live in a mountainous area with a lot of climbing. Would appreciate any opinions whether the inline 4 would work for me.

The nice part about the 2.7 is the 2.4 diesel is almost a bolt in...if you are into that sort of thing...in a state that won’t black flag your truck...and you can get one thru customs...easier to get people across the border than diesels.

I really like the 4 cylinder in the 2003 and 2008. I’m not sure if they were 2.7. The trucks did ok with out a load . My dad gave me a hard time about little trucks so I hooked to anything. 24 ft ski boat and round hay bailers are no no. Anything you hook be-hide any truck will hurt gas mileage. The 4 cylinder was a tough motor. Not as good as the 22r IMHO.

I’ve owned the 4.0 and 2.7. I LOVE the 4.0 and never had an issue. When it came to a 3.5 or 2.7 i mostly wanted the SR which only had the 2.7. I love my 2.7 so far! Wish I had a manual but it wasn’t available in 2018.

2.7 is a good motor.
