Adding a USB port

I want to add a USB port to the left of the steering wheel.
Can I just remove the plastic around the bottom buttons or must I pop out the larger plastic that includes the cubby shelf?

Thanks

There's a kit that 2 "quick charge" usb's. It runs off the back of your 120 charging ports/"cig lighter". Its got a long enough wire to to go to the center counsel, so it may fit to the left side to the steering wheel. Its 3 amps, I believe, and will charge quickly as opposed to the stock Toyota usb. You order on Amazon. Its cool looking, when powered up it has a blue light, and when in use it shows red, just can't think of the name of the maker.

My blanks only measure 1.25” x .875”
Is the 1.5” face dimension due to a little overhang, or would I need to modify the cutout in my dash? This is exactly what I need with the new head unit I just installed. Trouble matching the size looking online. Btw, it’s for a 2011 and would go under my climate controls.
