What 0w20 works the best in your Gen 3 Tacoma??
Mobil 1, Castrol Edge, Pennzoil Syn, Valvoline Syn, any other brands??

Currently using Castrol Edge Extend Performance 0w20 in my wife's 2017 Subaru Outback.
So... might just use the same oil in the tacoma?? Also, local mechanic/ family friend claims Mobil1 has not improved as much as some of the other oils?? Again... Just looking to see what everyone is using in their Gen 3 Tacomas.

I choose Mobil 1 primarily because I asked the dealer what oil they will use for the free oil changes. Changed mine at 3k and will let the dealership then do their thing.

I’m still under the 20k service contract. IMO if you change at a normal frequency of 5-10k you’ll never have a problem with any brand.
If you use the Castrol Edge Extend 0W20 in your wife’s Subaru than I’d use it in the Tacoma too.
Buy in bulk and save a little.

Anything off the shelf will work as long as it's the correct viscosity.

I use Mobil 1 synthetic. As all have said make sure its 0w-20 and anything will work.

I believe Mobil supplies Toyota with 0w20 for the service department? Seems like every youtube vid on Gen 3 Tacoma oil changes is using some type of Mobil 1 0w20.

Ive seen Mobil 1 with “For Toyotas” on the label. Dont know what the difference is between these and ‘regular’ 0w-20. Maybe someone here has the answer.

Probably a marketing deal. Toyota gets paid a royalty for the use of their name. That’s just a guess though.

I use Pennzoil Synthetic, it is made with natural gas. The engine runs very quite.

I was thinking of using Pennzoil Syn 0w20. I live in NE Pennsylvania and natural gas is a big industry in my state. I always like supporting a "home grow source" product. Plus, the natural gas base can be made into a very pure lubricant. Lots of specialty plastics are made directly from natural gas. I'm guessing any 0w20 meeting toyota specs will do a great job. I got great results using NAPA 5w30 in my 09 Tacoma 2.4l. I do believe they NAPA sell a synthetic 0w20.

So... I guessing any quality brand of 0w20 will do the job and make my truck go the distance. I'm just interested in everyones 0w20 preference.

Bogunn and TRD make a good point about the royalty.

A little plug for the Castrol Edge...

My 23 yr. old son' 08 Subaru Legacy GT (turbo) loves Castrol Edge 5w30. He started using Mobil 1 and noticed the engine would burn a quart or so between oil changes. Once switching to Castrol... this car stopped using/burning oil between 5k oil changes.

Just my opinion, but I have been using Mobil1 since the 1970's in everything I have driven. Never a problem.

I have been running Castrol since the mid-late 80s. Both good oils, all this proves is that I’m not quite the old fart that Rocket Tech is, lol.

I've used Amsoil signature oil in my vehicles since 1980. No reason to change now. My friend uses it exclusively in his second gen 4 cylinder Taco. No burning of oil, no engine noise, no drip, at 250,000 miles.

I used it in my GMC since new until I sold it at 136K. No burning, noise or drips. Ran the living snot out of that truck.

I haul 0w20 toyo oil for mobil and I asked the difference between regular and then the Toyota. The guy at mobil said that it's a little different but not much. Its toyotas special sauce but makes no difference what 0w20 oil you use the guy at mobil said. Lol
