Had the truck waxed about 10 days ago, looks great, but after it was in there I noticed somewhat of a "donk" clunking noise intermittenly while driving slowly, it seemed to be coming from the hood area. If I bounced up and down on the driver's side running board it would make this noise to the front drivers side part of the hood. I couldn't imagine that anything they did while waxing it would do it? But today I finally had time to take it to the dealer, two guys came out and told me to "bounce" on the running board, I did and it made the noise. They opened the hood and one guy picked up a round piece of plastic, showed the other one and said "this is off", they did something and closed the hood and told me to bounce again and it was gone. I asked what it was, they opened the hood again and showed me the plastic adjustable "bumpers" that the hood rests on, they said they must've cleaned the engine and bumped this one, they turned it a bit and told me to "glue" the round piece of plastic back onto the hood so it doesn't leave a mark, but as we were talking the detailer appeared! He said he goes there pretty often, they told him what happened and I asked him if they cleaned the engine and he said "yes" which I thought ws strange because 1. it wasn't even dirty and 2. it was supposed to be an external cleaning only, but it stopped the noise.
When I got home I talked this over with my neighbor who has a ton of car experience. He said he wouldn't think glueing this little round plastic piece onto the paint was a good idea, but he had some double faced sticky glue/tape, so I put that on the piece that fell off, it was now thicker than the other side that stayed on but it didn't make any noise, but knowing how anal I get about these things (remember the Tonneau cover?) I "eyeballed how each side of the hood lined up and the passenger side was much lower than the driver side, so I adjusted the "bumpers" about 6 times, kept opening and closing the hood and checking it, I got it pretty close but had to get inside to eat as the wife had to be somewhere, it is pretty close to being even by eye and doesn't make any noises but I will check it again and try to get them even by eye. I tried to take the passenger side round plastic piece off but that side is glued fast, if I could've gotten it off I would've put the double faced glue/tape on it to make it even but it wasn't coming off, so I figure that I will just adjust it by eye, and I saw the passenger side bumper was way higher than the driver side so it was like that before I did anything.
Any suggestions or anything to add about getting these close rather than by eye? I figure as long as they look close and it doesn't make that "donk" noise it's okay??
Thank you
