Wondering what’s everyone’s thoughts on battery replacement? My 2017 sport still has the original battery! Should I change it now? Do I get a load test done on it?

These batteries built today no longer give any warning when they crap out. You just end up with no nothing. A load test periodically can't hurt. A good replacement is a deka.

Deka is the best for the money. I wanted more, so I bought one of these.

I guess if money is no option those agm batteries are a good option, but a can buy 2 of those deka's, and they'd probably last longer than most would own a tacoma, and still have money left over for lunch.

My rule of thumb is if OEM is a wet cell, replace it with a wet cell. To take full advantage of replacing a wet cell with an AGM includes making a trip to dealer to get charging system recalibrated. Sure, you can just throw an AGM in there but what's the use of you're not getting the full benefit.

probably last longer than most would own a tacoma

I drove my last Toy 4x4 pick up for 19 years and 590k miles. I keep my trucks till they die. So I have no issues dropping $300.~$400. on a battery. I got 12 years out of my last Odyssey.

I had a replacement Deka in my tundra that was 10 years old in my 2001 tundra when i sold it. It was still doing fine. Depends where you live. If in a hot dry climate that battery won't last as long if in a climate like new england.

Load test on a five year old battery? Very good idea. Replacement, any name brand you prefer. If it's just used for starting you shouldn't need an upgrade. If you are running accesories you might want to install a second deep cycle battery. Also, if you need that much power, think about an alternator upgrade.
