Has anyone here painted textured flares body color?
I want them orange I can paint myself as I was in auto body in school so I was just asking for some extra input on prepScreenshot_20240921-185021~2.png
 
I'm no auto body tech, but it's a very simple. I've helped a buddy decades ago on painting flares for a jeep. You need to prep it first, wiping them down with a degreaser, and then spray on an adhesion promoter before doing the actual paint process.
 
Some say yes adhesion promoter and flex agents but usually the newer urethanes don't need flex agents, the flares I have from Extreme Trux are pretty bumpy not like the factory off road flares those have very little textures, I did sand a spot and you can knock down the bumps quite easily. They said they are not paintable but I think you can scuff them with the red scotch brite sanding pads.
 
Be careful when they claim not paintable. I've experienced some weird chemical reactions on objects i've attempted to paint after learning the manufacture claimed ''not paintable''.
Just a question....what happened to the oem flares these trucks come with? I have color coordinated flares on my 2020 sr5 that were ceramic glass coated afterwards. So far they look great.
 
Mine were orange not black it's a sport.my wife likes the black I never put any armor all or anything on them so there is no chemical soak in to the plastic :)Screenshot_20241029-204052.pngwhat it looked like few years ago I like the orange just didn't cover the rims with factory flares and COVID times I could not get the smooth ones

Stock flares were outrageously priced from Toyota when I bought a set years ago for a highlander I worked on. They over $250 apiece, but the owner wanted them.

Btw, the taco pictured with the red stock flares looks must better imo than those large ugly black ones that don't match the truck at all, plus larger tires on these gen3's don't do these trucks any favors for fuel economy, or performance unless you need them for strictly off-road use most of the trucks life.
 
That's why I'm painting them inferno orange to match it's same truck . The black flares cover my tires and my mileage didn't change at all I get 19-21 around town and up to 27 on highway if I keep her around 60 :)
 
27 mpg is way above average on these gen3's 4 cyl, or 6. I've seen a couple tenths over 19 mpg when towing my 5'x10' utility trailer with a snowmobile at those highway speeds. Never saw above 23.5 mpg with nothing in tow averaging 65-70 mph on one way 75 mile trips. Generally between driving short trips, and longer highway ones, I'm always just above 20 mpg. I always do the actual math, never relying on the truck's. computer led screen readout.....many times its bs.
As far as tires, the firestone's have been decent, but I think there are better choices for an all season tire.

Yikes! if I ran tire pressure that high, my truck would be uncomfortable to ride in. I'd be bouncing myself silly....not to mention have very uneven tire wear with only the center section showing thread wear. 32 psi seems perfect for the tires I run.
