I just wanted to post some helpful links that will allow people to check the history of a vehicle before buying.
While you can never know 100% if a vehicle is going to be a lemon there are ways to help protect your investment.
(of course you can pay for a service like CarFax but that can get expensive when you’re looking at multiple vehicles and trying to narrow it down).
https://www.vehiclehistory.com/vehicle/land.php
This site is great. It gives a fairly detailed VIN history for free.
https://www.nicb.org/how-we-help/vincheck
NICB allows you to check if a title is clean, whether a vehicle has been wrecked and is a salvage title, or see if it’s stolen.
http://www.toyota.com/recall
Toyota’s site to check for open recalls.
https://www.nhtsa.gov/
Government NHTSA site to check for open recalls on any make of vehicle.
Apps:

Vin Check is great for getting a quick market value for a vehicle and finding out the crash test ratings, options, etc.
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/cargurus-shop-cars-get-deals/id814517475?mt=8
Or
www.cargurus.com
Car Gurus is a great place to look at new and used vehicles for sale. It does a pretty good job of showing whether listings are overpriced or a good deal.
I hope this helps some people when they are looking at buying a vehicle.
