Rocky mounts on side rails?

I don't have the front rail, but I have a long bed. I think it'd be okay to install the Rocky mounts (for 2 bikes) near the front of the side rails and bungee the rear wheels (making a "v" shape in my truck bed). Any thoughts on this? Anyone done it like this?

Front bed rails are fairly cheap. $35-50 depending on where you get it.
 
Amazon is a great place to get unbiased reviews. If you can get it cheaper from eBay get them there or a parts site but I’d look at Amazon reviews and a few YouTube posts for reviews. That’s what I always do.
