Shock absorbers for a 1989 pickup

Hello all,

I am fixing up my dad's 89 pickup with the V6 and 4WD and an extended cab. It's been a 3 year project and I've gone from knowing nothing about cars to knowing how to work on them. Anyways I'm getting to the final stages and I realized that in all it's 258000 miles the shock absorbers haven't been changed. I am looking for ones that would be good off road and also offer good on road ride quality and handling. Do you guys have any recommendations of what type to get, monotube or twin tube, and what brands to get. Any advice would be greatly appreciated?

Late reply but. At that time year 1989
Rancho was the go -to shocks for that truck to use for off roading. In today’s market there is a lot more brands to choose from. Hope this helps

I don't know if it will apply but I have a set of factory coilovers and shocks from my '19 Tacoma I will give you for free if you're willing to pay shipping or come get it. 60000 miles on them.

I'm not even sure if it will fit but if you're interested you can do the research.
